Hello all! Not sure how I got this bugger! I was on a well known site when it got me :/ I'm using my iPhone to write this. This virus won't let me open ie. Neither super anti spyware or malbyte ! As I can't get on the net I cannot report what I should.

Could someone give me some help to atleast get online, thanks!

P.s I keep killing xrq.exe but it comes back when I try to open ie or any anti spyware stuff. Thanks again!

    Hello, Markuk86

Please download and run the below tool named Rkill (courtesy of BleepingComputer.com) which may help allow other programs to run.

There are 4 different versions. If one of them won't run then download and try to run the other one.

Vista and Win7 users need to right click and choose Run as Administrator

You only need to get one of them to run, not all of them. You may get warnings from your antivirus about this tool, ignore them or shutdown your antivirus.
    1. Rkill.exe
    2. Rkill.com
    3. Rkill.scr
    4. Rkill.pif
If you are having problems running Rkill, you can download iExplore.exe or eXplorer.exe, which are renamed copies of Rkill.com, and try them instead.

Once you've gotten one of them to run then try to immediately run the following.

Now download and Run exeHelper from Raktor
    • Please download exeHelper to your desktop.
    • Double-click on exeHelper.com to run the fix.
    • A black window should pop up, press any key to close once the fix is completed.
    • A log file named log.txt will be created in the directory where you ran exeHelper.com
    • Attach the log.txt file to your next message.
Note: If the window shows a message that says "Error deleting file", please re-run the program before posting a log - and post the two logs together (they will both be in the one file).

Now run this: Using Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

Now run this: SUPERAntiSpyware - running & getting a log

    Now run this: Using MGtools

Now you need to attach (See: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post ) the below logs created while running the above scans
    • exeHelper log
    • Malwarebytes Anti-Malware log
    • SUPERAntiSpyware log
    • MGlogs.zip - normally it is C:\MGlogs.zip - only attach this log from MGtools.exe DO NOT attach any logs seen in the MGtools folder.

    Helpful Notes:
    1. If you run into problems trying to run any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD/DVD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes, you could use a flash drive too, but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a different user account (if you have one) in either normal or safe boot mode and running only SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes while logged into this other user account. Then reboot and see if you can log into the problem user account. If you can then run SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes, and MGtools on the infected account as requested in the instructions.

Are you able to download any files with the infected computer?

Seems I cannot do anything. I'm in safemode now with networking. Whatever I try and open I get the virus popup and it loads xrq.exe. Usually I can remove spyware easy but this one has screwed me!

    You're welcome.

If MBAM completes its run - try to run my instructions from post#3 without re-booting if possible.

Not a problem - unless I nod off. I'll leave a note for the other Malware Fighters just in case. (I have a very early workshift tomorrow.)

You missed this important step - re: READ & RUN ME FIRST Malware Removal Guide (incl. spyware, virus, trojan, hijacker) Step 6: Disable Any Disk Emulation Software (like Daemon Tools..etc)

Do you know what these files are?
    C:\Users\Mark\AppData\Local\o0117nc2nv5tpb633d15bq765wo1
    C:\ProgramData\o0117nc2nv5tpb633d15bq765wo1

Please look in Add/Remove Programs (Programs and Features if using Vista or Windows 7) for the following and uninstall if found. If you get any errors just make a note and continue on.
Delete all files and subfolders in the below folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).
    re: Step 3: House CleaningOpen
Download and install CCleaner and run it according to the instructions.

Now install the latest Sun Java Runtime Environment

Please run this and attach the results.

    Using ESET's Online Scanner

Then run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Windows 7, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

Please attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file and the ESETscan.txt to your next reply.to your next reply.

    * Make sure you tell me if you had any problems running this procedure; and answer this - "What malware problems are you still experiencing?"

    Hello again, Sorry about that!

I dont know what the files are so i removed them. i also removed everything else that you told me. I had a few problems getting Daemon Tools to go away, but i *think* its gone. pretty shocked to see ESET detect 8 infected files! Any reason why none of my "defence" programs caught them? or even stopped Vista total security 2011 at the start?:S

    Thanks again!

    Hello, Mark

Vista Security 2011 can come bundled with shareware or other downloadable software.

Another method of distributing Vista Security 2011 involves tricking you by displaying deceptive pop-up ads that may appear as regular Windows notifications with links which look like buttons reading Yes and No. No matter which "button" that you click on, a download starts, installing Vista Security 2011 on your system.

    * You still need to update to the latest Sun Java as I instructed. (Note what the ESET Online Scanner detected).

Your logs look good! If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and re-enable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have re-enabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work through the below link:
