I installed Vista Ultimate on one of my spare computers to see whether I would like it for my main computer. It sure is different.

One thing I really thought was neat about Vista was how the windows seem to fade in and out when they are opened and closed. Mine does not do that and I was wondering if there was a special setting for this?
Also in the sidebar, the pics that are being displayed, they are not listed in my wallpapers. Are they hiding somewhere?

    Computer specs:
    AMD Sempron Processor 3400+ 2.00GHz
    1535m Ram
    32-big operating system
    Radeon 9250
    Creative EMU10K1

    Hi

To enable the fading windows, click the Start orb then right click Computer > choose Properties > in the left side menu click Advanced Settings, click continue at the UAC popup > under Performance click Settings and scroll down to Animate Windows when opening or closing and tick it then click Apply.

The pictures that are displayed in the sidebar picture viewer is defaulty set to Sample Pictures folder but you can change this to any folder with pictures you like, hover over the sidebar picture gadget and click the spanner icon, then next to where its says folder and you have a drop down list you will see a button with three fullstops [...] click that and browse for the folder with your wallpapers and your set.

Wow ... thank you. I need to read the Vista Dummies Book. I tried looking those two things up, but I guess Vista is just so confusing to me, I just couldn't find the answer.

I found and checked your suggestions. Changed what needed to be changed. My windows still don't fade (not sure why unless I have to reboot to get it to take effect.

I really thank you for your help.

Will Vista not accept the option to Animate Windows if the computer on which it's installed does not meet certain performance criteria? Could that be the reason koalaw is not seeing the visual effects of it?

Vista accepts my option to animate windows ....
it just doesn't do it even after it is changed.

Not sure what else I could do to my computer ... I thought I had enough to run the animation.

if the fading windows has to do with aero in vista you may be out of luck. last i checked you needed at least a 9600se to be able to do anything with aero.

I'm probably going to feel foolish but here goes:

What do you mean by 9600se?

Don't feel foolish. We only gain Knowledge by seeking it. ATI Radeon 9600se. It is a Video card in the same series as the one you have but with Higher/better/faster specs.

I had this strange feeling that the problem was going to be my video card.

Would I be able to use:
    AIW 9600 256M NTSC

It's a card I got a while back, cost mega $$, but just never able to use it the way I was wanting to.

The 9600 AIW should work with aero however... The AIW functionality is only usable through third party softaware in Vista. When you download the lateest catalyst drivers from ati/amd there are links for the third party software on their site if you do want to get those features working

Go to control panel, personalize, windows color and apperance, and check aero, my nvidia 6150le works just fine. ed

Tunered ..... it worked .... thank you so much. I know this sounds weird, but that is just one of the features of Vista I really liked. Now I need to do some reading and figure out how to use this OS better.

Again ... thanks to all of you for your help.
    This is a great forum.
