    Hello People,

Hoping someone will be able to help me. I have a laptop, that as of 2 days ago will not connect to the internet using Windows Vista and IE7. The laptop is connected wirelessly to a desktop computer that has a WIFI modem/router.

This is what I have tried so far........

    1. I have connectivity because I can still get live update's from Norton.
    2. If I boot in safe mode I can connect to the internet.
    3. Windows update will not allow me to download updates. If I do a Windows Network Diagnostic, it say's "Windows did not find any problems with this computers network connection".
    4. I have reset Internet explorer, didn't help.
    5. Have run full system scan with NIS 2009, found no virus.
    6. Have run full system scan with Malwarebytes, found no malware.

    What now?

    Thanks!

    Hi RBS,

This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team.

This issue can be caused by a problem with your ISP, an infection, or a software conflict. Make sure that the Windows Firewall is disabled, so that it does not conflict with the Norton Firewall.

Next, manually run LiveUpdate within Norton Internet Security and if any updates are installed, restart your computer and then run LiveUpdate again, until you are informed that there are no more updates available.

Next, restart your computer into Windows Safe Mode and then perform a Full System Scan to check for infections which may be causing the problem.

Assuming there are no infections, or they were removed/quarantined by Norton, the next step is to properly remove and then reinstall the latest version of Norton Internet Security, which is the 2010 version. One of the advantages to having a subscription to a Norton product is that you are entitled to free product updates for the life of your subscription. Since there is the possibility that your current installation may be corrupt, please carefully follow the instructions below to properly remove and then install the latest version.

    1. Click on the following link to download the Norton Removal Tool:

    Norton Removal Tool and Instructions

    2. After you run the tool, please restart your computer. Log into Windows again and run the removal tool again. Restart your computer after it is finished running the second time as well.

    3. Click on the link below and then select the "Download" button under Norton Internet Security to download the latest installer.

Download the latest installer for Norton Internet Security 2010

    4. If prompted during the installation for an Activation Key, you will use the same key that you are using for the 2009 version.

    5. When the installation is complete, launch Norton Internet Security 2010 and manually run LiveUpdate and then perform another Full System Scan". After the scan has completed, check your connectivity with both browsers that you have installed.

Please let me know if any infections were found during the scan and also if you are now able to connect to the internet.

    Thank you,
    Mike

    Thanks Mike,

Through a series of elemination by restarting the machine, turning on the services a few at a time, I was able to establish that the "Symantec Network Proxy" was the issue. I rang Norton Australia and was redirected to a chap in India who took control and as you suggested, uninstalled NIS 2009 and installed NIS 2010 for the remainder of my subscription.

Working fine now, don't know how it happend so I can't say it won't happen again. But I did learn how to track it down through turning the services on a few at a time. Slow, but at least it was the sure way to find the one sevice that was behaving abnormally and work from there before that I was taking a path here and a path there and going nowhere.

I've sent an email to the chap's boss outlining how pleasent and helpful he was so I hope he gets to here that.

    Anyway, thanks for your help.

    Regards,
    Robert
