Okay, reading on the interwebs, I know this router works fine with Vista. But, not for me.

    Computer:
    Vista x64 SP1 RC1 (didn't work pre rc1)
Running a Marvell Yukon 88E8056 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (nic for short :) )
    All patches installed.
    Latest drivers installed.

    Router DIR-655 (link: http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=530 )
    I have the latest firmware.
    MAC is cloned from pc.

My computer can't connect to the internet, it does receive an IP from the router, and dns.

    Things I have tried.
    Normal install, failed.
Setting DMZ for the computer, failed.
Setting DNS for my ISP on my nic, failed. (but I could obtain the ip, no ping backs)
adding default gateway to nic (tried it anyway), failed.
Turning off vista firewall and router firewall, failed.
Disabling QoS on both computer and router, failed.
    Disabled vista ipv6, failed.

Things I've yet to try because I'm to stubborn:
    Call comcast.
    Reinstall xp (NEVER!!!!!11111!)

Use to have a 4-port router (d-link). But got tired of stringing a cable across the house for the xbox-360 and PS3. Bought the Xbox360 wireless add-on.

Wireless is disabled at the moment, will be using WPA.

    Thanks for any help.
If ye need more info, I'll post.

In addition, the router can ping places like majorgeeks.com and google.com

What does a traceroute look like, to say, MG?

Will try that, now. Thanks, that reminded me that I needed to do a nslookup also...

I was more curious as to the IP of first 2-3 hops.

    Ooops:

copied pasted the wrong info there. :(

It is interesting that nslookup resolves the ip.

BTW, I did set all settings that I changed back to what they were before.

Can you tracert to the actual IP of MG?

Once again, curious about the IP of the first couple of hops.

    Kind of thinking aloud here...

The OS should not have any particular interaction with the router settings...except via UPnP.

If the UPnP Device Host service was disabled....see where I am heading with this?

Do you have any particular Live CDs to test and to verify that its the OS thats the culprit?

I see. Will give that a shot. Will reply back here with my results.

Well, thats limits it to the router...

Yes, I was leaning towards to router in the beginning, but it is nice to troubleshoot on the OS level. :)

Called both Comcast and D-Link (D-link had horrible 1 second time delay and could hear conversations of other people troubleshooting problems. Got confusing). Overall 2 hours on the phone.

End result, returned item back to CC and got a replacement. 30 seconds of config, and now I'm online. Everything works.
