Vista

Hi

As you've probably guessed from my previous threads, I'm a bit of a computer ignoramous. I have (another) simple question that I'm hoping you can answer. My Mum's PC is operating Vista and I'm doing some "maintenance" on it. However, I can't download a firewall, nor can I download spybot from any of the quick links in the Malware Removal threads. Do I need a firewall or will the Vista one suffice, and should I be able to download the other spyware tools?

When you say you can't download a firewall what is meant by this?

The Windows one is pretty strong, but many here would recommend another such as Zone Alarm etc.

 

What happens when you try to download? Can you download anything?

 

It says that the firewall doesn't support the operating system (i.e. Vista), or words to that effect. It does give the option to modify the download so that it's compatible to Vista, but then the computer freezes and I get a "blue screen".

Can't download Spybit either. It allows me to "run" the download, but then nothing happens afterwards (when I download I usually save to desktop, but there's nothing there and in any case it usually automatically takes me to the next step).

I managed to download CCleaner Ok.

Any ideas?

Try that one.

The Windows one is generally sufficient enough - are you connecting to the internet directly or using a router?

Give Ad-Aware a download too, to see if that may help.

 

ad-aware does work for vista

 

I know, hence why I suggested it
