I just got Visual Studio.net 2003 Academic but I have no idea how to install it. The window that pops up has four things on it all but the first one is clear. The first one is titled Visual Studio .NET prerequisites and under it says "Setup has detected that some of the system components that are installed on your computer do not match the versions required for Visual Studio .NET. You must install a different version of these components." It doesn't tell me what those components are and the readme file says to insert the prerequisite disk but I don't have such a disk. Please help.

make sure you download .NET framework 1.1 redistributable and the .NET framework 1.1 SDK. Install them both and then try again.

Still doesn't work. This is stupid... one of the most used C++ programs not having the necessary files on the CD... can't find a single website that tells what prerequisites are either.

are you sure you didn't get a purple cd that said prerequisites on it? it's not something that is excluded from any version of the studio.

I did forget one thing.. you have to have IIS installed to install vs.net 2003. try that too.

No, I didn't get a purple CD. And can I have a link for that IIS?

One thing though. I got the CD's from a camp I went to. I Only got the CD's and not the box but they were wrapped. Everyone got the same package and this camp's been around for a while. And the counselors were professionals. So wouldn't they know what to give?

IIS is a component of winxp pro.. go to add/remove components and it will be listed there (requires xp cd).

I'm not sure why they didn't give you the preq cd. It's not super-essential if you have the preq's to install as separate files.. did they give you the MSDN library CD's?

I don't have a Window XP pro disc either...

I only got three CD's all in one wrapping. The first one says Disc1 and has the CD key on the cover and the second says Disc2. The third one is the same color (yellow-ish) and says StudentTools.

try executing the setup from the cmd line using this
    n:\setup\Setup.exe /NO_BSLN_CHECK

where n is the letter of the cd drive.

It's working!! Thanks a lot for your help. What did running the setup from cmd change?

that switch on the end, skips the baseline check.. I knew there was a switch to skip it , but for the life of me I couldn't recall what it was.. I happened to stumble across it shortly after my previous post.

If there are still files that are of the wrong version , you may receive errors when running your apps or compiling and running in debug mode. The errors there should be more descriptive (hopefully) and we can TS from that point.

    Good luck.. have fun!
