I've long been of the VLC school. But lately I notice that of the many many videos which struggle to play on my machine (RAM too small, i guess), about half of them will actually play in WMP! This is the exact OPPOSITE of what I had always believed.

Now I'm left indecisive as to what to player to use. Has anyone else experienced WMP (or RealPlayer or w/e) outpacing VLC?

Sadly, yes. I was disappointed to see that VLC couldn't play the audio on the videos from my phone. However, that is an exotic Quicktime filetype (.3g2), so I blame LG (phone Mfgr) and Apple more than Video Lan.

Still, that is the only problem I've ever run across. I can live with it 'til I replace my phone hardware with something better. (And WITHOUT Apple's rotten touch)

The ones I'm having trouble on are just straight-up MPGs and AVIs. I had assumed they would sputter as bad -- or WORSE -- in WMP.

    Alas, no.

I have my first hiccup with VLC (on a windows 2K computer). It is a commercial DVD I own and the movie was so jerky I could not watch it. I fired up windows 2000 built in dvd player and it played fine.

Today I noticed there was NO AUDIO playing an mp4 file!

Well, at least there was video. In WMP, it wouldn't even PLAY.

Meanwile, it played JUST FINE in QT...sound and all!

    Now I'm even MORE indecisive....

Well, at least there is video. But no sound, no how.

Still better than WMP, tho -- they won't even PLAY there.

i have been using wmp alot lately rather than others. I have noticed that vlc does a way better job with subtitles, tho. and i think some of the codecs installed with, say, some codec pack, are better than vlc's built in ones. i used to see vertical lines in vlc, but not in wmp.
