    Greetings fellow geeks,

I've got an issue with my volume control on my desktop. The slider will not go to the top or bottom...oh, I'd say 20% of the slider range. If you drag the slider to either the top or bottom of the slider, it just springs back into that middle 60%.

I've uninstalled/reinstalled the drivers & codec's, reinstalled my Realtek HD audio manager, and made sure that all of those things are on the latest drivers.

I checked my advanced volume control's, and they all work as intended. It just seems to be with the volume slider itself.

Useing VLC Media player, and on things like YouTube, I can move their sliders fully.

Any idea what might be keeping it from working right? Nothing I've seen is showing any errors. :confused

Thanks in advance for any help.

Oh, forgot to mention, it's Win XP home on the computer.

What are you running when it doesn't work? Do you have an app with Auto Volume Levelling switched on (Windows Media Player or iTunes, for example)?

It's doing it at all times, even when just idling on the desktop. I've tried going in to task manager and killing off user-enabled processes one at a time, but none of those seemed to affect it.

I navigated to that part of the registry, and it was already showing C:\Windows\System32\userinit.exe in place. Tried typing it back in myself and rebooting, but no joy.

Ran through the full virus cleaning and whatnot recommended on the forums, and still hasn't fixed the issues with the volume slider. Any further ideas?

Temporary workaround until you find a solution: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/volumouse.html
I have this installed in 2K and XP. This controls the volume using the mousewheel.

Do you have a volume control on your keyboard? If so, fiddle with that. It might be preventing the slider from fully working.
