Vpn: Random Dropout

I recently installed the latest Norton 360 with VPN. The VPN will not stay 'ON'. It drops out with no indication after a few minutes and the only way you know it is to open the GUI and see that it is 'OFF'. I found from the Norton forums that this is a very common problem that Norton 'is working on'.

To me, a VPN that does not stay on is useless. Some of the Norton users claimed it dropped out due to the screen saver or power saving mode activating. Some others said it would disconnect if your internet link dropped out. If that latter is the case, I am done for. My Comcast link goes in and out all day long.

I know little about the mechanics of the VPN connection from my PC to their server somewhere. Can someone that does know tell me: If you lose your internet connection for a few seconds, woulds any VPN drop out?

    Thanks.
