    Hi There.

Today I started getting (winfixer.c0m) pop-ups on my laptop. I went through all of the the Read and Run Me First requirements, running spybot, adware, mircosoft anti-spyware and ccleaner. I also tried to run my McAfee virus scan but it would not run? Then I followed the instructions in the forum for the specific, Vundo.exe and cleaned a file c:\windows\systems32\geedc.dll (ALTDistrib Object) from the HJT Logfile.

I would like to attach my most current HJT logfile for your help in cleaning any thing else that my be amiss.

    Thank you in advance.

    Judi

Yes you have fixed the Vundo problem but you still have MyWay Search Assistant. Thanks to Dell! First look in Add/Remove programs and uninstall anything related to MyWay (like MyWAYSA or MyWAY Search Assistant etc).

Then run HijackThis and select the below lines and only click fix after all browsers (this one too) have been closed:
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.dell4me.com/myway
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://bfc.myway.com/search/de_srchlft.html
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.dell4me.com/myway
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://bfc.myway.com/search/de_srchlft.html
    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {4D25F926-B9FE-4682-BF72-8AB8210D6D75} - C:\Program Files\MyWaySA\SrchAsDe\1.bin\deSrcAs.dll
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {4D25F921-B9FE-4682-BF72-8AB8210D6D75} - C:\Program Files\MyWaySA\SrchAsDe\1.bin\deSrcAs.dll

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.
Boot into safe mode and use Windows Explorer to delete:
    C:\Program Files\MyWaySA <--- the whole folder

If you get an error when deleting a file. Right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. If it is, uncheck it and try again. Other wise open Task Manager and kill the process if running then delete the file.

Now run Ccleaner (installed while running the READ ME FIRST). Now if running Win XP goto c:\windows\Prefetch and delete all files in this folder.

Now we need to Reset Web Settings:
    1) If you have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, goto step 2. If not, skip to step 3.
    2) Now right click on your desktop Internet Explorer icon and select Properties. Then click the Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK. Then skip step 3.
    3) If you do not have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, click Start, Control Panel (for some systems it may be Start, Settings, Control Panel), Internet Options, Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK.

Now reboot in normal mode and post a new HJT log. And tell us how things are working.

    Hi Chaslang!

Thank you so much for checking my log - I am so glad to be rid of vundo..

I have also taken the steps you outlined to remove MyWay Search Assistant.. After I removed the program from the add/remove programs the following were not in the hjt log:

    *****
    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {4D25F926-B9FE-4682-BF72-8AB8210D6D75} - C:\Program Files\MyWaySA\SrchAsDe\1.bin\deSrcAs.dll
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {4D25F921-B9FE-4682-BF72-8AB8210D6D75} - C:\Program Files\MyWaySA\SrchAsDe\1.bin\deSrcAs.dll

    C:\Program Files\MyWaySA <--- the whole folder
    *****

I have also attached a new log. My system seems to be working normally now, I surfed around a bit with no pop-ups. The only thing left to do is get the okay to enable system restore.

MajorGeeks is indeed the most useful site and you are at the top of my favorites list ;)

    Thank you again... Judi

    Thanks Chaslang!

I have tried really hard to keep my laptop out of the hands of the DD12 but........I think that should be added to the list of prevention measures ;)

Ive reviewed the list and there are a few things that I do need to implement on the safety front, so I will get to that tomorrow.

I thank you again for all your help.
