    Thanks for being here!

I have done my best to follow the RUN& READ ME first thread, but I had issues with the combofix. I don't have my vista disk (as this is a gateway, I'm not entirely sure I ever got one).

Here are the other logs though.

    Thanks again,
    Chris

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Your Malwarebytes log indicates that you took no action. Did you fix what it found? Did you just get the log before you fixed things? I suggest you run it again just to be sure and make sure you quarantine everything.

Did you knowingly install Kontiki and the service to download/play some videos? It will not show in Add/Remove programs. It is there sneaky way of making it hard to uninstall.

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [auditadmin] C:\windows\temp\auditadmin.cmd
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\QTTask.exe" -atboottime
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SNM] C:\Program Files\SpyNoMore\SNM.exe /startup
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [s9201] "C:\ProgramData\SecuriSoft SARL\WinSpywareProtect\wspwprtct.exe" /autorun

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now download The Avenger by Swandog46, and save it to your Desktop.
    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Do not change any check box options!!
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:
    • Now click the Execute button.
    • Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    • Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    • Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.

    Now run Ccleaner!

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\avenger.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

must have saved the log early, the rescan found nothing new.

I might have, but I don't believe I need it for anything, if it can go away it probably should.

done, but avenger had some errors while running (one line of script was "not accessible" and on restart "no disk")

I've got a noticable improvement in browser speed after the READ&RUN and I have control of my background back (the tab has reappeared in the "personalize" control panel.

Here are you logs. And Thanks Again!

You need to attach the correct logs. I did not ask for a HijackThis log. I ask for the ne MGlogs.zip file.

    sorry, heres the right one

You did not attach anything. Watch for error messages in the Manage Attachments window. They are not real obvious.

The forum won't allow me to upload the MGlog.zip: "you have already uploaded this file in this thread". I tried renaming the file but it still wouldn't accept it. As per message #2 I only ran the MGtools/analyse.exe and the hijackthis.log was the onlything new created.

Is there a way to force this into the zip? so that the forum knows its a new file?

    thanks for you patients

You need to follow my instructions to get a new log. You are trying to attach the same log as you previously attached.

Your logs are clean. Are you still having problems?

The only issue I have left (that I'm noticing) is that after surfing for a while some websites don't open (even after I've been there during the same session) most noticeably, but not only, my homepage (which is my website but hosted remotely)

the error I get is: firefox can't find the server

edit: if I restart my machine it all works again for a time

You say only certain websites...is that correct? Which websites?
Try using Internet Explore when FireFox cannot connect and tell me what happens.
Also try pinging the website to see if it answers. Just open a command prompt window and enter ping www.majorgeeks.com (just an example. Replace the majorgeeks URL with the one you cannot connect to.)

It does not sound like this is a malware problem.

this is from www.liona.com an MMO forum. It is the "homepage" for Thunderbird and shows up just fine there but Firefox/IE won't load it.
    =========
    cmd ping www.lionna.com

    --------------------
If its not malware, any ideas what it could be?

it also does it off and on with my website www.agyess.net
and occassionally at www.espn.com I get only a partial load of the page and everything is in a single column running down the browser. This all started at the point I was infected so thats why I assumed it was related.

It does not appear to be malware. Are you using a router?

Download HostsXpert and then follow the below steps.
    • Unzip HostsXpert.zip
    • It will create a folder named HostsXpert in whatever folder you extract it to.
    • Run HostsXpert.exe by double clicking on it.
    • Click the Make Writeable? button.
    • Click Restore Microsoft's Hosts File and then click OK.
    • Click the X to exit the program
Also Click Start > Run and type in cmd
    • Click OK.
    • This will open a command prompt.
    • Type or copy and paste the following line in the command window:
      ipconfig /flushdns
    • Hit Enter
    • Exit the command window

Try pinging using the IP address rather than the URL. That is use

    ping 67.215.66.132

    Does that work?

Thank you for all your help.

    You're welcome.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. You can uninstall SUPERAntiSpyware now.
    2. We recommed you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware as a scanner. It uses no resources except a little disk space until you run a scan.
    3. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
      • Delete the C:\combofix folder from combofix.
    4. If we had you run Avenger, you can delete all files related to Avenger now.
    5. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    6. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    7. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    8. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    9. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    10. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    11. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
