Uninstall the CounterSpy trial program now since we are finished with it.

Also uninstall Viewpoint Media Player as requested in step 0 of the READ ME

Now let's take care of a bad service. Note it may already be Stopped. But make sure you both stop it AND disable it.
    • Click on Start, then Run ... type services.msc into the box that opens up, and press 'OK'.
    • On the page that opens, scroll down to DomainService
    • then right click the entry, select Properties and press Stop Service.
    • When it shows that it is stopped, next please set the Start-up Type to 'Disabled'.
    • Click OK until you get back to Windows.
Run HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =

    Good Morning,

Thanks for all your help. Please find attached 3 of the logs you requested with the fourth to follow in a subsequent reply. (3 file limit). I have tried to follow all your directions. I know one thing I screwed up was not closing all browser windows before removing what you told me with HJT. I went back and did this again and the log I am posting is with all windows closed.

For once, this time I booted Norton did not do its dance of finding one file it would fix, one file it couldn't and then scanning and fixing a file and saying everything was great. I also still have a serious browser redirection problem which made getting this post up a real test of my patience.

Thanks and all the best from

    Luciano

Okay I just noticed that you are using very old out of date versions of GetRunKey and ShowNew. You must always make sure you use the current version of all tools given in the READ ME. Please download and use the current versions to create new logs and attach these new logs.

Run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

Run HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {2EA04D97-8A3F-4944-9BC9-AA97A74320C0} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\geedc.dll
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {89AD4D75-2429-462e-BD4E-443F233F6033} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\loogwgoj.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [16188966] rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\xbohuggc.dll",b <--- you may not see this one because it is renaming at each reboot
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [16188966] rundll32.exe "C:\DOCUME~1\Edie\LOCALS~1\Temp\wqqfylbq.dll",b

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Check the 'Input script manually' box.
    • Click on the magnifying glass icon.
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it in the box that opens:
    • Now click the 'Done' button.

    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt
Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune. This program does not require an installation. The executable actually runs the program.

NOTE: This program is for Windows XP and Windows 2000 only. ATF Cleaner will remove all files from the items that are checked so if you have some cookies you'd like to save. Please move them to a different directory first.
    • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
    • Under Main choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.
    If you use Firefox browser
    • Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.
      • NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
    If you use Opera browser
    • Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
    • Click the Empty Selected button.
      • NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main ATF Cleaner menu to close the program.

Now attach the below new logs and tell me how the above steps went.

    1. Avenger
    2. GetRunKey
    3. ShowNew
    4. HJT

Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

Also DO NOT REBOOT or power down after attaching your logs. If you are still infected, file names could change and that would make my next fix ineffective.

    Greetings,

It's good to have you back. Not all things are functioning correctly on your end as you probably well know. I had to download Disable/Remove Windows Messenger from another site. It seemed to work OK.

I could not find the two 04 rundll references in Hijack This but I found and removed the other two.

I cannot forward an Avenger log because apparently that log is created when you reboot and you asked me not to reboot.

Thanks for your understanding and I hope you guys recover from your server migration soon. I still cannot access the site from the laptop with the infection so I had to transfer the logs and post from another machine.

    Thanks,

    luciano

No! You needed to allow the reboot when Avenger runs. Then after attaching the NEW logs at the end of the procedue you must not reboot. I'm going to work up a new fix for you to use. This time make sure you allow the full Avenger procedure to run. And then after you attach ALL NEW logs and the Avenger log, do not reboot. I'll post a fix after going thru your last logs.

Yes this has been a problem for some people, i have not noticed any problems myself since early yesterday.

Based on your HJT log you did not Remove Windows Messenger. Please do that now.

Continue by downloading a tool we will need

    - Process Explorer

Extract it to its own folder somewhere that you will be able to locate it later.

Make sure you have rebooted in Normal Mode (do not open any other processes)

Make sure that one and only one Internet Explorer browser is opened up

    - Run Process Explorer

In the top section of the Process Explorer screen double click on winlogon.exe to bring up the winlogon.exe properties screen. Click on the Threads tab at the top.

Once you see this screen click on each instance of any of the below DLL files (if found) and then click the kill button.
    geedc.dll
    acxmyisd.dll

After you have killed all instances of any of the above DLLs under winlogon click ok.
(If you do not find these DLLS, just continue on.)

Next double click on explorer.exe and again click once on each instance of any of the below DLL files (if found) and then click the kill button.
    geedc.dll
    acxmyisd.dll

After you have killed all instances of any of the above DLLs under Explorer click ok.
(If you do not find these DLLS, just continue on.)

Next double click on iexplore.exe and again click once on each instance of any of the below DLL files (if found) and then click the kill button.
    geedc.dll
    acxmyisd.dll

After you have killed all instances of any of the above DLLs under iexplore click ok.
(If you do not find these DLLS, just continue on.)

    Now just exit Process Explorer.

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [vevgydov] C:\sfoijeyi.bat
    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Check the 'Input script manually' box.

    Just delete the below file:
    C:\Documents and Settings\fsjjktlf.txt

Other than that, your logs are clean.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below
      • Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    2. If we used ComboFix, you can delete the ComboFix.exe file, C:\ComboFix folder, C:\QooBox folder, C:\WINDOWS\nircmd.exe, C:\combofix.txt and C:\ComboFix-quarantined-files.txt logs that was created.
    3. If we user SDFix you can delete all the SDFix related files and folders from your Desktop or whereever you installed it.
    4. If we used SmitFraudFix, you can delete all files and folders related to it now including the c:\rapport.txt log.
    5. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    6. If we had your run FixWareOut, you can delete the Fixwareout.exe file and the C:\fixwareout folder.
    7. If we had you run Avenger, you can delete all files related to Avenger now.
    8. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    9. You can delete the ShowNew.Zip and GetRunkey.Zip files and the files that you extracted from the ZIP files. You can also delete the C:\newfiles.txt and C:\runkeys.txt logs that were created
    10. If you are running Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • go back to step 8 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    11. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
