    Hey everyone,
I need some help. I have a Toshiba A205 laptop with Windows Vista on it. When ever I scan with SpyBot it always picks up virtumonde. Now my windows explorer is running really slow and whenever I go to firefox, my homepage is google and when i type in a search nothing happens, it thinks and thinks but never connects to the webpage. I know that the wireless works because it works on the other laptop I have just fine. Any Ideas? Is this vundo related. Please Help!!!!!!!!!

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Virtumonde (aka Vundo) can place many files and registry keys on your PC and it can cause many problems. The best way to fix issues from Vundo is by following the procedure given below and then attach the requested logs so we can manually remove any remaining issues. Vundo normally requires manual cleaning steps.

Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

Re: Vista Eating up my hard drive

Ok, so my SuperAntiSpyware doesn't completely scan. It stops at C:\Quarantine.

    I have attached the logs.
    thanks.

Your logs do not show any signs of a Vundo infection. The only issues I see are and undefinded broken Browser Helper Object and the fact that you may have some leftover from having Norton 360 installed at some point in time. Did you uninstall Norton?

Attach a log from Spybot that shows what it is finding. You can get the log by right clicking in the scan window when it completes. Save the log and then attach it here.

I did have Norton 360 on the computer when I got. It was pre-loaded along with a whole bunch of other junk. I did uninstall it and it doesn't show on my list of software. How do I get rid of that and the browser issue? I will attach the spybot long soon.

Let's see if we can take care of Norton and the BHO's.

    • Click on Start, then Run ... type services.msc into the box that opens up, and press 'OK'.
    • On the page that opens, scroll down to Symantec Lic NetConnect service
    • then right click the entry, select Properties and press Stop Service.
    • When it shows that it is stopped, next please set the Start-up Type to 'Disabled'.
    • Click OK until you get back to Windows.
    • Next, run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe which is really HijackThis, but instead of scanning, click on the None of the above, just start the program button at the bottom of the choices.
    • At the lower right, click on the Config button
    • Then click the Misc tools button
    • Select Delete an NT Service
    • Copy/pasteCLTNetCnService into the box that opens, and press OK
    • If you receive any error messages just ignore them and continue.
    • Now exit HJT but do not reboot when it tells you it needs to. We will do that further down after running HJT again to fix some other items.
Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    R3 - URLSearchHook: Yahoo! Toolbar - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {F7F5852B-B899-4B58-9252-2A026483B8E6} - (no file)

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

    Now run Ccleaner!

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it.

    Then attach the below log:
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    Looks good now!

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. You can uninstall SUPERAntiSpyware now.
    2. We recommed you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware as a scanner. It uses no resources except a little disk space until you run a scan.
    3. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop & renamed it like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\cf" /u
        • Notes: The space between the cf" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
      • Delete the C:\cf folder from combofix.
    4. If we used SmitFraudFix, you can delete all files and folders related to it now including the c:\rapport.txt log.
    5. If we used VundoFix, you can delete the VundoFix.exe file and the C:\VundoFix Backups folder and C:\vundofix.txt log that was created.
    6. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    7. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    8. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    9. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    10. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    11. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
