Mcafee recognizes that there is a trojan in my computer but can't get rid of it. It is the the VUNDO trojan and says it is in c:\windows\system\32\awvvs.dll I have tried removing it with the Symantec FixVundo.exe tool. I did everything it said (turn off system restore, but I did not use the process Explorer tool as this fix didn't say to) and it scanned the computer and said it found nothing. I've also run Spybot, Ad-Aware and Microsoft's AntiSpyware and they find nothing. Besides Mcafee's notice that keeps coming up that there is a trojan that they can't clean or get rid of, the computer is very slow and will not shut down by command, only restart itself. I'm running windows xp on a 2.16 GHz AMD Athlon processor with 512 RAM and 160 GB harddrive. Any suggestions? Thanks

It normally works! You just need to ID a couple of lines from a HijackThis log to use in the procedure. Running the READ & RUN ME and following the guidelines for installing and running HijackThis are important too.

Thanks for the response, it seems very complicated but I will keep trying. No luck yet.

What is it that you are trying?

Are you trying to follow the procedures?
    How far did you get?
Have you run ALL of the READ & RUN ME sticky?

Thank you Thank you Thank you. Originally I must have missed the VundoFix V4.0 (vundofix.exe) in the special procedures. I was getting ready to download bitdefender and panda active scan, not to mention Hijack This (should I have this on my computer anyways?). But the VundoFix worked! Again, thank you Thank you Thank you, and I'll give an appreciation donation. You really know what you are doing and are very helpful. Judy

You're welcome Judy! Glad we could help.

If you are not having anymore problems, no I would not download the other tools like HijackThis.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to go back to step 1 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points. Then reboot and enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

After that, you should work thru the below link:
