I ran Dr Watson on W98SE and came up with this:
    Diagnosis tab:
Adobe Type Manager has altered Windows system files.
<unknown> has altered Windows system files. Module Name <unknown>
    Patches tab:
    System module: Modified by: Path
    GDI ATMSYS.DRV gave one
    GDI <unknown> <unknown>

I've installed the Adobe Type Manager in a couple of locations in the past so could a bad uninstall of it cause this type entry? What is the GDI system module? And how do I go about explaining this unknown one? Thanks if you can help.

Don't bother with a reply, I more than likely won't be back.
