Wallpaper file overwritten but old picture still displayed!

This one has me stumped! I've got a really nice photo displayed on my desktop (Windows XP Home), but at some stage, the file used must have been deleted or more likely, overwritten with the same filename, as I can no longer find it, not even in the recycle bin now. I'm puzzled how Windows is managing to display the image. In the Display properties, Desktop tab, the highlighted file is not the image currently displayed on the desktop. The preview screen shows a different image, so I guess the original image has been overwritten with the same filename since the wallpaper was set. I've browsed every image on disc I can find and none are the wallpaper current image! (*.jpg, *.bmp, *.gif) Where the hell is Windows finding the data to display this old image? I want to know because I really want to get that image back!
I've looked in the registry at the wallpaper settings and they point to the file highlighted in the display properties, but it's no longer that image. If I reselect it and apply it, the wallpaper updates to show the same as the preview screen... and then I can't get the desktop back to the desired image. Luckily a different user account had the same wallpaper set so I still have that displaying at the moment.

Is the file stored in a "personal" folder somewhere for another user?

 

Do a search for pictures and photos, then look for the name that you think it is and find its location
