Want new mail notice without opening OE

Win98, OE v.6.0, dialup modem:
Now that I have switched back to Outlook Express from IncrediMail, I find I really miss one IncrediMail feature. Once I was online, IncrediMail would let me know by a cute notifier when new mail had arrived--even if the IncrediMail program was not open. Anyone know if OE has such a gizmo? Or, if not, do you know of a way I can get notice of new OE mail even when OE is not open? When I rest my cursor on the OE tray icon, it just says "Outlook Express."
