Want to acess info off old hard drive

I have an old hard drive that I want to get info off of. I donot have access to the old cpu so I am relying on the CPU my friend has. I do not know if his is NTFS formatted or Fat32. Mine is NTFS formatted. I can't boot up on my hardrive I get a blue screen for about 1 second and then it reboots. I want to get info off my drive however I password protected my profile and cannot acess it when both harddrives are connected to onoe computer. I simply won't let me. Help anyone!!

 

not sure what you mean by a cpu being formatted to either fat32 or ntfs. as this is a process applied to the hard drive.guess you may have meant this. just stick drive in a working pc(yours or someone elses) as master. then download KNOPPIX from http://knoppix.org/ and boot . it will run from the cd you can then see the drive,then just start kb3 burning program and burn your files to a cd/dvd. or if you connect another hard drive just move them to it. when you have saved all the data you wish.you can then format hard drive and reinstall with that nasty xp. if you can not download knoppix you can buy it here for very little http://www.cheeplinux.com/index.php?cPath=31_55&osCsid=63cf25f9dc5780fcac71e0fb19e45625
