Am considering a move to another country where, as a foreign national, I would not be allowed to work. Have inherited the place and am thinking it's a waste if I'm not there.
Am wanting to find a way to earn my living over the web, have some ideas, but want to hear of others' experiences - what went wrong, what went right, how to ensure payment, etc. - really, anything related.

    Thanks and Blessings,
    Port-O-San

What country? So many immigration and legal things to consider here before stepping out :)

it's a relatively undeveloped country and the least developed region in said country. Immigration is not a problem, nor is the property - it's a 125 year lease and the infrastructure is all set up. "Stepping out" isn't an issue, either, since my predecessor has experience of going there for 6 mos/year for 20 years and that info has been passed to me.
Internet access issue has also been solved.
What I have yet to solve is income - that must come from outside said country - I'll be near enough to a border to make monthly excursions to a civilised banking system, but will not be allowed to do actual work for pay within borders of said country, so an internet business is the only viable way to earn my keep.

    Hi Port-O-San

What is your internet business idea or skills in developing that business? what I mean is can and do you have the experience to make it work, or is the venture a new one that has not been thought of?

As for payment, you could go Paypal, or setup an online payment system direct to your bank or a company account ( this is better, that linking to main account ). AS for making sure you have payment, you woudl only release the product when payment is recieved.

    Maybe some info here http://www.microsoft.com/smallbusiness/hub.mspx

I will dig out more later.

I've used paypal for years - my only gripe with them are some of their sneaky fees that you don't know about until they whip 'em on you. Otherwise it's simple, expedient, and relatively painless.
I've got extensive ebay experience and have proven that I can make that work quite well but my "schtick" "gets popular" really fast and better financed people horn in and flood the market, selling for less than I can buy for. So, I find another product and go through the cycle again - it usually takes about 6 to 8 weeks for the big money players to figure out what I'm doing and crash it.
What I'd like to do now is something proprietary - something that is MINE - maybe an intellectual property, but I won't tell a soul what it is.

What I'm looking for are pitfalls, experiences, and strategies from people who are actually earning money via a web based business........ anyone?

    Blessings,
    Port-O-San

Web design can be done from anywhere with internet, might be something to look into.

Perhaps look into exporting goods from your country into where you intend on moving to?
A good mate of mine has managed to set up his own Ebay shop and home internet business selling Scottish goods. He makes a lot of money and now has people working for him :) He is only 22yrs old !

So why not sell something to do with your national heritage?

    Good luck

    G :)

Great idea I'll take it to heart and think on it!
but I think I'd do better to import/export someone else's heritage = born in the U.S.A. - and exporting war isn't very popular these days.........
I am, however, of Native American descent....... perhaps I should get in touch with my roots = I hate to be mercenary....but there is always a strong market......
P.S. love that Bear! Looks like he lost the Charmin! HAHAHA!
