From $681 to $49? I dunno man... sounds... shady.

    It's quite a detailed course.

OK so after you learn who's going to hire you? CIA, FBI, etc. maybe?

It sounds like they needed to drum up business a little bit. A discount from $681 to $49 probably includes a 'taste' to see if you are willing to invest more money to go further. Like a mechanic offering a class on fixing cars, and teaching students how to replace a fuel pump. Not a bad idea, actually. It's a decent price... to find out whether or not it would be right for you.

It seems like any thoroughly detailed course would have to include learning a programming language. Ya know?

There are nine courses....I am only 47% through the first course and it is intense.

Give us a highlight. What have you learned? What do they show you? Not that I'm asking to get free what you paid for, but just a glimpse, a preview. Do they focus on running commands in the command prompt? Is it even on a Windows based system? Are they focused on any kind of specific programming language?

Most of what is used is linux......gnacktrack. Cain and Abel.....penetration testing. I am up to router hacking.....cracking WEP., WPA and WPA2. An upcoming talk is DDoS attacks. Creating fake web pages, spoofing email, etc. As I said, it is very intense and I will probably do it again once I am finished. Eight other courses to do and at my rate, it could take me a year to finish. LOL

Most of the work is done in a VM..... where I have installed Kali, gnacktrack, backtrack and Win8.

It sounds like things have passed me by since my college days. I've never heard of a single one of those, other than Linux and Windows 8. Well... I mean I know what a router is and the WEP/WPA/WPA2 keys are, but jeez... last time I used Linux, it was Red Hat, and we were doing Perl scripting from the command line. Bummer...

Hacking has gotten a whole lot easier. More modern tools to work with.

Well, in all honesty, I was never really able to access anyone's system save for a vulnerability that no longer exists. Since it's not something you can do anymore, I'm sure it would be okay to vaguely speak about it. It was some kind of hidden share that Microsoft put on the system by default, and with just an IP address or network to access, all you had to do was type the net use command and map the drive to your own computer.

That's the only "hacking" I've ever known. Just normal use of network commands that, without a vulnerability or a way in, couldn't normally be used to access someone else's system. On a side note, those DDoS attacks you were talking about, apparently there's a group of people (or maybe just one person, I don't know) that decide to do just that to the battlenet servers which caused me huge latency in WoW, made it unplayable.

So in that sense, can something like that be done without any kind of trail? It seems like they would be able to trace the attacks back to something... anything... regardless of proxy servers. At the very least, trace it to some public computer at the library or something. What's your thoughts on that?

Some exploits can be done anonymously. Remember, this course is called Ethical Hacking. Except for Data Banks. Hehehe.
