Want to replace Celeron CPU

I have an old Celeron D and want to replace it with a Dual Core. I have done some research and read the posts here but want to make sure that I am getting the right one. My Everest report is attached. I was thinking about one of these;

Also should I keep the same heatsink and fans or upgrade those as well?

Hi

Sadly the D101GGC Intel bases motherboard in your eMachines is not capable of supporting a Core2Duo CPU socket 775, according to the Intel CPU support list here http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/d101ggc/sb/CS-025906.htm

Even looking at Intels Bios update manuals for that board, there is nothing to suggest that they added support for Core2Duo CPUs,

You may wish to double check with Gatewat on yoru model number, but reading the tech docs I wouldnt personally be confident.

Yes to your question of updating heatsink as newer CPUs have differening heat properties, so always best to get the boxed retail CPU pack that comes with matching HSF or get a good 3rd party one, but IMHO you'd be looking at updating if wanting to go Core2Duo to a new motherboard as well as CPU.
