I am seeing christmas trees going up already... are they not too early ( 12 days of christmas and all that? )... nearly walked into one whilst going for a caffiene fix this morning in work! Should have been paying more attention to where I was going but I didnt expect a tree to be hidden around the corner.

Happy Thankgiving to you Jack... et al :)
not that us brits celebrate this.

Quicky question... when do christmas trees start apearing in homes and gardens in the US? I witnessed my first one in UK on my drive home

As far as the retail world is concerned...the day after Halloween!!

It seems to be the general consensus that people typically put their personal decos up on Thanksgiving weekend...+ or - a day or two.

They're triffids taking over the planet Halo (remember that movie?)

Actually I have been pleasantly suprised how Christmas is approached over here in Oregon. It really doesn't feel half as in-your-face as it does in the UK to me, in terms of the commericalization aspect from stores and TV. Only now am I beginning to feel the emphasis, and not overly so to the point of sickening. In the UK I often found as soon as the kids got back to school all the decos came out and the stroes started hammering your ability to decide what to get as gifts.

We are going up the mountains to cut down our own tree (and throw a few snowballs) next weekend :)

Hear you on that observation Roger, and the day after new year the Easter Bunny drops chocolate eggs in the stores!

OH yes I remember that TV series.... damm goodun too, hope they repeat it sometime. The UK sadly has lost IMHO the feel of christmas, especally as you rightly say the commercialization of the season, only reason I am getting back into enjoying the holidays ( apart from the parties ) is that my sisters two girls are now 3 & 5 and as they stay over christmas its a laugh seeing little ones faces. The Adverts for christmas on TV started in October for some airfreshener do-hicky with the hint of cranberries and old sock as a smell.... now we are being hammered by the supermarket chains!

Enjoy your Snowball fight... I used to love them, still do but we dont get much snow now-a-days, well so forcasters predict we are in for cold/snowy winter this year so, maybe I best get my throwing arm, limbered up ;)

They've say that here every year!!!!

i moved from southern tip of illionois to the chicago region (Aurora) about 5 years ago...and before when I lived down south, we got an average of something around 12 inches for the whole winter...and then when I moved up here, everyone told me..."oh you wait, you'll see snow like you've never seen before!!"...ppffffffttt...it NEVER snows here, and home has gotten lambasted for the last 4 years...ba***rds!!

    Incase you couldn't tell...I LOVE snow!!!! :)

Oh well, this year should be alright, cause I'm shopping with my girly friend on thinkgeek.com :p Buy together and save packaging :p Gotta work out what to get her. Was thinking about giving her H.I.V but her best friend is going to give her that ;) (follow the link and it'll make much more sense). Besides, if we buy it together she'll be able to see what I got her, and thats just no good.

    Happy Thanks-taking... ehh, giving!
