Some of these won't play embedded so you'll have to click on the link....sorry.

The late master of the bandoneon (see the wikipedia entry for info) and Argentinian tango composer (but this is NOT your father's tango music) Astor Piazzolla. This will probably drive a few of you crazy....Milonga

Something a bit more accessible (I can almost feel that breeze blowing right out of my monitor). Carly Simon in a waterfront concert @ Martha's Vineyard -- You're So Vain:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQZmCJUSC6g

Augie, really enjoyed the trio playing Mediterranean Sundance but also love this version by the duo of de Lucia and DiMeola (as well as the shorter version they do on the Elegant Gypsy album) Terrible amateur camera work, (very bad angle, too much movement) so just close your eyes and listen:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Svgulchhg3k&feature=related

And now for something completely different -- The Reggae Armadillo by Gary P Nunn ;-) Sorry, no video, just a still shot of some cactus, but "I wanna' go home with the armadillo...."

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ZBGMDXluO8&feature=related

I'd never heard this until a few weeks ago. I like kd laing's version, jeff buckley's, leonard cohen's, but seem to keep going back to Rufus Wainwright's. By the way, the credit at the end of this video (which shows the lyrics as they're sung) is mistaken. Rufus didn't write this -- Leonard Cohen did. Hope none of my comments qualify as ranting!

And last, but not least....I posted this once before here, but it's too much fun not to pass it along again for those who may have missed it. My wife and I were at this very concert and it was a really fine evening in a small venue. Thom Jayne and the Nomads playing Also Sprach Zarathustra -- two and a half guitars (Jaynes doubles on the didjeridoo), trumpet, two and a half percussionists (trumpet player doubles), fiddle, and....ta da....a didjeridoo (sp?):

I'm outta here. And goodnight Mrs Calabash, wherever you are... :tas

This one moves into a beautiful latin feel - just the right tempo. :cool
Some people ruin these things by playing them too fast, IMHO.

I've been a fan of Richard Thompson's since the early 70's. Too many favorites of his to put here, even if I could find all the videos. This is one I keep listening to frequently.

Man Eezak, you're as varied as I am, perhaps even more so.:)

I thought you posted that because his dog was named Flora, in reference to the Purim that I had posted.;)

Carly Simon? I like her too.:)

I love most things with Di Meola and De Lucia! Adding some MLoughlin doesn't hurt anyone eh?;)

As 'Hallelujah', I know that song well as Cohen's a home boy.:)

Thom Jayne and 'Sprach Zarathustra' was an ear opener for me. Thanks for that.:)

I've got nothing ATM. hmm, since it's Dyamon's birthday today, here's some Paul Simon and Lady Black Mombasa.:dancer

Augie, I think you've got me beat with the wide range of stuff you listen to. Really enjoying working my way through this thread and finding lots of new stuff I haven't heard.

re: Purim and Flora Didn't intentionally post the Astor Piazolla thing in response, but who knows how the subconscious works?! Especially when it comes to music.

Mahavishnu McLaughlin is a treat for certain.

As for Cohen, well add Gordon Lightfoot, Ian Tyson and, one of my all-time fav lyric writers as well as performers, Joni Mitchell, to that list of Canadians singer/songwriters. No doubt there are lots more that I don't even realize are from the North Country.

Here's a few more tunes (working from a long list I typed up this afternoon ;)

Mimsy and a few others have posted game music. Here's one of my all-time fav original vocals from a game. The first link is a music video version and the second shows how it appeared in the game. (Just drop some money in the basket and the song would take off -- but how does that guy play mandolin with those big green gauntlets?!) The Darkstone Shines....

(music begins about 10 seconds in on the first link)

(music begins about 30 seconds into the game video)

Would have liked to post Tom Waits' Saturday Night, but no real video, just the album cover for Heart of Sat Night. So here's Fumblin' with the Blues from that same album and a bunch of photos on the video at least.

"The bartenders all know my name, an' they catch me when I'm pullin' up lame...."

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEPX1CMPiTA&feature=related

The Traveling Wilburys -- Handle with Care (man, I love watching and hearing these guys having fun playing together)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQ89HHSq9b8

And ("there ain't never been nothin' quite like this, everybody's doin'...) The Wilbury Twist!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mri_BzkSGg

Nanci Griffith -- "I feel like Garbo in this late night grand hotel, 'cause livin' alone is all I've ever done well"

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZvNg...t=AVGxdCwVVULXcueiqy0umhmrXgA8xXSZkI&index=15

All right, let's close out this late night session (for me, at least) with some blues harp. Charlie Musselwhite from his old album Stand Back. Christo Redemptor. (No video, just the album cover, but so what?)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UDJSy2zyz0&feature=related

Actually, I think the version on the old LP I have isn't this long, though it is quite similar otherwise. Just a heads up in case anyone should order this -- check out the YouTube info and timings (not sure if the CD is still available -- first released as an LP).

    :tas

And goodnight Mrs Calabash, wherever you are....

Very nice set to wake upto sipping my morning java.http://bestsmileys.com/coffee/3.gif Thank you Eezak.:)

BTW, enjoy the romp looking into some of our fondest memories, at least musically.;)

This is the end portion of Eric Serra's "Little Light of Love", which is played at the end of "The Fifth Element", during
    the end credits.

Every recording I found was incomplete; most have the end cut off.
So this clip is the end portion (nearly complete) as heard at the end of the movie.

Little Light of Love - end portion

    Here is the first part:
Eric Serra - Little Light of Love

The diva's vocal solo sounds humanly impossible and I think some of the solo was mixed with electronic sounds,
but it was actually performed by Inva Mula.
The first 28 seconds of this clip are silent :confused

The Diva Dance - Inva Mula

This girl does a pretty good job attempting to duplicate that solo.
Laura sings the "Diva Dance" from the Fifth Element

I'm just testing out my new Logitech G35 headphones and trying to break them while I still can do a return. Damn things are champs man! Can ya'll think of anything else that I can throw at them besides super bass? My old ears are not that good at the upper level of 20KHz. Too many concerts.;) Let's blow the roof off of the dump!http://bestsmileys.com/music2/21.gif:-D

@thisisu. The opening to "Do You Call my Name" made me think of this:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eEmnqqFO1Gs

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hawkwind

"Hawkwind are an English rock band, one of the earliest space rock groups. Their lyrics favour urban and science fiction themes. They are also a noted precursor to punk rock[1] and now are considered a link between the hippie and punk cultures.[2]
Formed in November 1969 by singer-songwriter and guitarist Dave Brock, Hawkwind have gone through many incarnations and styles of music. Critic Jim Green[3] describes their trademark sound as characterised by "that gargantuan and impenetrable pre-metal/hardcore drone, those great riffs, that inexorable drive to destinations unknown". Dozens of musicians have worked with the group; fantasy and science fiction writer Michael Moorcock was an occasional collaborator."

"during a North America tour in May, Lemmy was caught in possession of amphetamine crossing the border from the USA into Canada. The border police mistook the powder for cocaine and he was jailed, forcing the band to cancel some shows. Fed up with his erratic behaviour, the band fired the bass player[15] replacing him with their long standing friend and former Pink Fairies guitarist Paul Rudolph. Lemmy then teamed up with another Pink Fairies guitarist, Larry Wallis, to form Motörhead, named after the last song he had written for Hawkwind."
