Ok I have a linksys router on one computer and the other computer has the USB internet card to get o the network. Both are desktops. The one with the card is having the problem. I installed a webcam(Iconcepts brand) and I dont know if this is possible but it seems that everytime I plug the cam in the computer, either the intenet or cam doesnt work. Like all of a sudden the card will stop picking up the signal or the cam wont work. Sometime they both work for a second but then usally it is the internet that will stop working. This sounds crazy and I dont know what to do. Anyone have the slightest idea of what to do. I have Windows XP just so you know. Please help me out because I really would like the webcam to work with the internet card. I mean whats the purpose of the webcam if I am not on the web?lol So if anyone has the slightest idea of what to do,your help would be greatly appreciated.

are you using a USB hub to connect both the devices? or does the computer have enough USB ports built in? How old is the machine? Do you know the Power Supply rating? If it is an older machine, perhaps when both devices are plugged in, the USB cannot supply enough power to both of them simultaneously. Otherwise it could be a driver conflict.

Ok well stating the obvious there would appear to be a conflict and this manifests itself with the problem you are having.

This conflict could be at irq level or in respect of the usb bus which is more likely.

In the first instance confirm your usb connections in respect of the wireless device and the webcam, ie how exactlly connected to pc, which ports or are you using a hub, if so powered or passive.

In the second instance, do you have any other usb devices connected, ie keyboard, mouse, other and also exactly detail connection.

I take it that the webcam in local mode works fine if you pull out the usb wireless stick. correct?

    Good Luck

I have 6 ports,4 in the back and 2 in the front. I have a printer, wireless mouse and keyboard, and wireless internet card in the back, and I have the cam in the front. I tried the front and back but same thing happens no matter what.

Do you have a spare p/s2 kb and mouse to susbtitute for the usb ones.

In the first instance you need to narrow down which usb device is causing the problem. Although the symptom of your problem is that when you connect the webcam the internet drops, this is the symptom and not necessarily the cause.

There is also the possiblilty that your webcam is drawing more than 500mA which is what the pc usb port can supply. Check in device manager.

If this is the case, then you will need to buy a powered usb hub ie one that connects to a wall socket.

    Good Luck
