Webpage freezes

Hi, I just installed DSL onto my new computer (with windows XP) and whenever I use internet explorer to go to other sites other than my homepage, it freezes. when i try to favorite a page, it freezes and the task manager says it's not responding. i don't know why this is happening. the computer is brand new and i even installed IE7 so why is my computer doing this? thanks for any help you can provide.
