As you probably know i do some poetry and some philosophical sayings/quotes
and i`d like to make my own website and share these with people, but i`m worried that someone else is just going to knick them.
So i`m just wandering do i have to see someone about copyright or can i just put copyright then my name? and how do i stop someone from copying and pasting my stuff? I know you can stop it, because when i right clicked on a site before it came up with a window pretty much saying i can`t do it, is there some code i could enter, and if so can someone tell me it if they know please.

Thanks

LW

Copyright is intrinsic and automatic as soon as you create an Original work.
The notice is not required but helpful and it should be in the correct form.
Legal assistance is not necessary for simple copyright, however for a fee you can Register a copyright with the U. S. Library of Congress, copyright office.

I think there is a way to make copying from a web site more difficult, but probably not impossible.

On your web pages, you can display a copyright notice with the copyright Symbol by using either the entity name ©
or the number © (with semicolon at the end)

Example: © Yourname 2012 appears as © Yourname 2012

(edited to show entity number instead of symbol, as I assume was intended)

Yes, that is what was intended. For some unknown reason, I could not get the number entity to display, which is why I left Off the semicolon.

When I checked it without the semicolon it was OK, but somehow now I see that the symbol is again displayed. :confused

Usually, enclosing in tags does the trick, but it did not work this time with the number, but did work with the name.

Yes. These forums treat the numbers differently from the names, for some reason. I escaped the ampersand, using & which I just escaped again, using & which I escaped there, too... I could keep going by repeating the #38; part...
Also, when I do the preview, I have to go back and append another #38; to each ampersand because they are changed in the source, too. It's weird... :confused
