I am not sure when this problem began, but no matter which browser I use, web pages take a ridiculously long time to load (like 5-10 minutes, sometimes never loading properly). Frequently a bit of the page will load and then the rest will take a long, long time. It is common for the left side of the browser tab to indicate the page is still trying to load even after it has finally loaded successfully. It's been a problem for at least a few months and I've tried using MBAM in the past to try and find anything going on without any success and we've just dealt with it. Our other computers load pages in a flash and when I've tested our internet connection, we have a wonderful signal and the speed has been incredibly fast.

So, today I followed the "READ ME" steps followed by the Windows 7 Malware Removal Steps. I'm still having issues the same as before so I wanted to attach my logs since several of them indicated issues were located and see if anyone can spot out what my problem is.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Please save the work in your browsers before proceeding.
    • Shut down your protection software now (antivirus, antispyware...etc) to avoid possible conflicts.
    • Double-click JRT.exe to run (if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 right-click and select Run as Administrator)
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Please attach JRT.txt to your next message. (How to attach)
Now also download the current version of MGtools and also save it to your Desktop.
    • Read the below first before continuing so that you know what is expected.
    • Now exit all other programs including the browser that you are reading this in so that you will be able see everything that opens while MGtools runs.
    • Right click on the new MGtools.exe that you just saved to your Desktop and select Run As Administrator.
    • A black command prompt window will open to run all the scans in MGtools. Wait until you see a message about it being finished before closing this window.
    • At some point you may see a popup window with a license agreement for TrendMicro HijackThis. Make sure you click the I Accept button.
      • You need to click it twice to get it to accept.
      • If you see HijackThis open and/or a log from HijackThis open in notepad, just close HijackThis and the notepad window
    • Once MGtools finishes running it will tell you the location of the log is C:\MGlogs.zip.
    • Attach this new log.

You're welcome. Okay we are just about finished with everything we can do. I don't think your real problem is malware. I see from your logs that you have a very slow ping time. This will make things load slowly. You need to see if resetting or by passing any router equipment you have improves this. Connect directly to your ISPs modem ( bypassing any routers ). This assumes you have a modem of some type.

Is the below proxy server setting something you added?
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = ikereeft.proxysolutions.net:25995

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixme.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

Just so I know, what should an *ideal* ping time range be for someone with high speed broadband? I tried to find that info online and I couldn't nail down what range I should expect as normal. I realize there is going to be a lot of variance from moment to moment depending on a lot of factors.
This is what I get when I go to speedtest.net
    Ping: 39 ms
    Download Speed: 14.11 Mbps
    Upload Speed: 1.47 Mbps
So, as I try and troubleshoot my hardware, what kind of ping time should I work towards to know that I have addressed the issue?

And as to the proxy server, I did set that up this summer on IE since I don't ever use that browser but I thought I deleted it from the settings. In any case, it is a proxy that I paid for and set up through a service so it isn't something that snuck in under the radar. I suppose it could, however, be a source of lingering issues.

I tried the registry edit and got this message:

"Cannot import C:\Users\Rogers\Desktop\fixme.reg: The specified file is not a registry script. You can only import binary registry files from within the registry editor."

So it appears that did not work.

And thanks again for all the help. I know it's a lot of time and effort and I just wanted to say I appreciate it. I've also found the forum posts on safeguarding my computer so, so helpful!

    You're welcome.
The 39 ms is okay. What I saw in you last logs was more than 10 times this. Your logs showed the below
    Code:
Pinging 74.125.113.106 with 32 bytes of data:
    Reply from 74.125.113.106: bytes=32 time=474ms TTL=45
    Reply from 74.125.113.106: bytes=32 time=408ms TTL=45
    Ping statistics for 74.125.113.106:
        Packets: Sent = 2, Received = 2, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
        Minimum = 408ms, Maximum = 474ms, Average = 441ms
    =================================================================
Pinging [URL="http://www.google.com"]www.google.com[/URL] [74.125.134.103] with 32 bytes of data:
    Reply from 74.125.134.103: bytes=32 time=501ms TTL=43
    Reply from 74.125.134.103: bytes=32 time=529ms TTL=43
    Ping statistics for 74.125.134.103:
        Packets: Sent = 2, Received = 2, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
        Minimum = 501ms, Maximum = 529ms, Average = 515ms

This is typically a sign that you did not create the file properly. The REGEDIT4 line must be the first line of the file. No blank or any other lines above it. Make sure you did not copy in the Quote: text which is not part of patch.

Thanks - I've been consistently getting something along the lines of 39 ms pretty consistently over the past day or two when I check it. So that may be explaining why pages are loading better most of the time. I did also reset my (AT&T) router yesterday so that may have helped as well. Pages seem to be loading much faster particularly when the computer has recently been restarted or turned on. As the day progressed yesterday, I found myself having more trouble. Don't know what would cause that.

And you were right - I did save the file incorrectly. I copied it from the email in my inbox instead of using the forum page and my email had added some asterisks near the beginning. I copied the correct quote this morning and ran it and it completed successfully.

Okay then since we really are not seeing any malware problems, it is time for final instructions.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. You can uninstall RogueKiller and HitManPro.
    2. Go back to step 4 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 6 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
