Websites that you get a Malware or Virus infection from

I couldn't Post Reply to TomK's post (Titled: Virtumonde, Smitfraud-C Partially Removed) regarding his suspicion of getting an infection from a website that he downloaded a song from - and I couldn't IM him, as I don't have enough posts. I guess you need 50, which seems high. I'm just learning through this site, and think it's going to be a while before I can contribute.

Is it OK for folks to let us know where they suspect they got a Malware or Virus from - just so we know to stay away from these sites? I've read through many many posts, and this is the first one (TomK's) that the user enen had an idea where they got it from. I think it's important to be able to weed out these slime ball sites. Not passing along this info, only allows for more people to get infected.

Also - how do you get credit for "Thanks". I say "Thanks" at the end of every post, but don't see any way to do it through the GUI that allows you to post or reply to a new thread - I notice a tally of "Thanks" and "Thanked" in the window that shows each user name - but not sure how it works.

This is a very informative website! When I put my first post up, it was several days before I finally got a response, but I'm sure you guys are very busy replying to these threads. At first I thought I was just getting blown off, but then I started thinking about the time some of you must invest. Thanks to all the time you guys do put in to help the MajorGeek forum community out!

    Thanks

    Hi

Malware forum here is different in that you can only reply to threads and posts that you started this is in effect to stop mutiple "I have the same problem" type posts in someone elses thread, which can confuse the oiginal poster of the question as its only fair to them to have dedicated help on their issue, which is why its always a good thing to start a new thread with your question.

As for listing sites causing infection, this would be a massive job and not just collecting the names of sites, but in keeping it upto date as sites that are infected come and go all the time, options for keeping known sites from infecting you are installing Spywareblaster or Spybot S&D as they keep a list of known sites and block them from being opened on your browser, they are not comprehensive and cover all sites so safe surfing is needed, but they offer a small level of protection.

As for Thanks, its not a tally of the amount of times you say thanks in your posts but a way of saying Thank you to someone else whos post has helped you. Cannot thank yourself also. You will see in others posts in the bottom right corner a thanks icon with a thumbs up, you click that IF a post has been useful to you.
