Weird HD prob

Have a maxtor and a Deckstar both 120 Gig and both have OS installed. I repaired the Maxtor OS as master and booted fine and recognised as master.. I then connect Deckstar as Slave.. Boot and Maxtor is regged as Slave (jumper setting master) and Deckstar is no where to be seen, any ideas as need to get data from slave to master to format, any suggestions folks got me beat..

This could be one of those cable select problems that I have ran into in the past, and still see on some newer computers. You didn't mention your OS or system setup, so I'm assuming XP or 2000, and whether you have CD-RW, DVD - ROM, etc. You also didn't mention whether the operating systems on both disks were the same or different.
Is your BIOS set to autodetect? If so, you could make the hard drive that you are wanting to boot from as the master, and only drive on IDE Channel 0. Plug the other hard drive into the same IDE cable as the CD-ROM. Verify that the CD-ROM is set to master and the hard drive to slave. This should solve your booting issue, as I've had to do this a few times. Hope that this helps!

 

Hey Thanks a million Novice it worked a treat putting Slaved HD to Master DVD/Rom Ribbon.\Apologies on lack of info but you were correct on your assumption both OS's were XP. And as a added extra for those reading this I had ''Repaired'' XP 3 times and neither time had it done so and still remained with the same problem and that is why I have had to Format.. So a repair sometimes will not always correct the errors,, thanks once again Novice
