weird patchy internet access

Hi all,

I have ADSL internet that was working fine up till about a week ago. Since then, it will generally work OK when I boot up, but often within a couple of minutes will drop out. Sometimes I can use email but not browse! Sometimes I can get certain websites, but not others eg Google.

Sometimes I can resolve it by rebooting or switching the modem off and on again, other times I have to browse to the modem diagnostics page [http://10.1.1.1] and reboot the modem from there.

I have spent ages on the phone with my ISP trying all their suggestions to no avail -- they are baffled, but say it could be a virus.

I have followed all the steps in the READ AND RUN ME FIRST post and attach my BitDefender, Panda and HijackThis logs. Anything suspicious showing up?

Your HijacKThis log is clean. You have an infected email in Thunderbird, there is an infected Restore Point, and your Java is out dated.

Other than that it doesn't appear to be a virus that is causing your problem.

 

Thanks! Things have definitely improved over the past couple of days, so maybe AdAware or SpyBot cleaned out whatever it was...

I have disabled (and re-enabled) System Restore and updated Java, but how do I identify and delete infected email in Thunderbird?

 

The following emails have an infected attachment:

According to your BitDefender log there are 3 emails with that subject line with an attachment named Readme.zip.
