weird problem

ok for some reason im having a weird problem. its hard to desribe but ill do my best.

for example when i try to open systyem restore the window opens for it but theres nothing there, just a blank white window. it shows that the restore program is running in task manager but its not truley running. sometimes the window doesnt show up at all and task manager still says its running.

various different problems behaving exactly as i mentioned above.

ive run a virus scan and spyware scan and it was clean.

i tried running amust registry cleaner to see if there was a problem there, but the program will open and all but the express scan button isnt there for me to click to actually start the scan process.

doesnt affect all programs, just seems to affect random different ones.

not really sure what i should be looking for to correct the problem.

i havent changed anything, just booted the pc and noticed these various problems.

running windows xp 2000 sp2

any idea or help is greatly appreciated, thanks

edit: im trying out different programs and just noticed that once ive entered a yahoo chatroom i cant view any text at all, but on aol i can see the text in a chatroom just fine, cant see text using instant messenger on yahoo, but it works fine on aol also.

I know it's alot of stuff to look at!!! I'm just trying to be thourough here. Try a Google search for 'blank system restore' and the top few hits should have some info that'll be of help to you. GOOD LUCK!

thanks for your reply the 3 run commands on this link you posted fixed all of my problems ....> http://windowsxp.mvps.org/srblank.htm thanks i really wasnt expecting for it to be fixed that easy but sure enough its fixed even though im not sure exactly what those commands changed or reset or whatever it did.

The commands re-registered some .dll files that somehow got out of whack (I think ).
