My friends laptop had this weird problem of not being able to connect to the internet. It could connect to wi-fi fine. But something was still blocking it.
I tried looking at her AV(norton) and I was not even able to start it up, and I was not even able to uninstall it until I got the norton removal tool from here.
After that the internet started working.
The scans I ran looked clean, but I was wondering if any of you know about this type of problem, and how to avoid it in the future.

Needless to say, I'm looking to get a better AV on her laptop.........

Is there anything else I should do with her computer as far as malware?

    The logs are clean.

In this case, it was not a malware issue. It was a broken or possibly expired securiy program issue. We have seen Norton cause problems like this many many times.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. Go back to step 6 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    7. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

She has Norton through Comcast, and I know they totally changed the interface recently, so who knows what could of happened..

I knew Norton was the problem, but it did look like malware when I could not even deinstall it from "Programs and Features"

    Thanks for the reply.

That was the first thing I got from here, ;)

I bought a version of Kaspersky for her that is free after rebate.
That should be better than the free AVG or Avast right?

    Kaspersky is a good program.
