Weird system freeze-up while transcoding video

Greetings.
I need help from you fellow geeks.

Does anyone know what could be the cause of the computer completely freezing up at some point during dvd video transcoding?

It's not my computer, it's a friend's. I've checked everything I could think of. The system is stable, registry is healthy, no virus, spyware or maleware that I'm aware of. Everything runs smooth, but system hangs during video recoding. I've tried with 3 different programs: DvD Shrink, Nero Recode, and CloneDvD and it happened with them all, so it must be something in windows?



Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks in advanced.

Anyway. OS is Windows XP Pro SP2.
