for a graduate of Cornell University, he sure doesn't know didely dick about keeping up with technology. Been there since April and I've come to the final conclusion that this company will not grow as a result of what you see above. I don't know what technology savvy company will want to use a language that is two major revisions (3 total actually) behind.. I can see 1, maybe 2 in cross over.. but 3.. no way..

resume' updated.. job sites posted to.
    *sigh*..

You'll find something in a jiffy. You're too smart (and they're dumb to let you go). Let us know when you get the new job, so we can celebrate with ya! :)

You gotta alot of smarts Kodo. Why not work for yourself? Things you do at the office right now could probably be done from your home, work as a contractor for several companies whether they are located in your immediate area or not.

Might be something to consider. :) Good luck.

Sorry to hear it had come to this Jim, but no-one can say you didnt give it your best shot, and if the bosses dont want to listen then it's in MY opinion their great loss as you will be an asset to another company.

Been in the same boat as you a year ago, made the tough decision to jump ship and look for something new.. damm glad I did as the work I do now is not only stress-free but rewarding too.

Good luck on the new search.

They made a big deal out of <strong> versus <b> ... and sheeesh ... you SHOULD be using W3C standards anyway ... good luck Jim.

I'm trying to inject standards into our projects. I may not be 100% on my standards but I am working towards it. I have, however, built several XHTML 1.0 and CSS 100% compliant sites before.

It took me 7 months before my boss actually asked me to start tossing him info on .NET. Not that he's using any of it.. but hey.. not my call, though I do try to remind them of it frequently.

Just in case my poor wording came off wrong, I was supporting you - standards are there for a reason - yep, <b> is depreciated ... use the "right" thing as you suggested.

Keep your head up Jim and good luck! ;-)

He will be mighty upset when they stop supporting his OS too if he thinks .asp is cutting edge.

I trust you will find something soon.

Ah, I feel for you... I just started my 6th job as a programmer/developer and, in my opinion, you will find that the problem you have working with your current company will be one that you will come to expect at every gig. It's always a challenge to get a good handle on the code base at a new place, but having to work with (or for) people who are terrified of change or staying current with technology can be really frustrating.

The first time I accepted an offer with a large company (after bouncing around dot.coms) I, somehow, thought I'd be on the bleeding edge... thinking "big company = big money = talented coders = newest stuff..." I couldn't have been more wrong. The "hugeness" just means that every decision is made by some worthless committee, which means upgrading the database from SQL 7 to 2K takes a year and a half. For me it meant I could take all the dot.net classes I wanted, but don't even TRY to use it to build anything on the job.

You've got skills, so you'll be able to find that company with a team of people who think like you. I have seen some really talented people who seem perfectly content not being challenged at all by their work...and I just don't get it.

    Good luck!
