avast found win32:crack in c:\system volume information and i moved it to the chest...however, i can't seem to back up my files to my external hard drive, i forgot verbatim, exactly what the pop-up error said but it did contain "system volume information"...so...
what now...ad-aware caught on tracking cookie, tac of 3
    trend said i was clean...
it all happened when i put in my buddies dvd with all kinds of programs and what not and one of the files an executable was a keycrack program...i think since my dvd boots up, i guess it was read by the computer and somehow jumped on to the harddrive...what now?
from what i can see, HJT looked fine...

You seemed to be running into quite a few problems. Are you working on multiple PCs?

Have you applied all the steps in the How to Protect yourself from malware! thread to all of the PCs you have been posting problems for?

Hopefully you learned a lesson about taking files from other people.

System Volume Information is system restore. Antivirus applications cannot fix problems in system restore that is why step 1 in the READ ME FIRST has you disable system restore. That blows away the restore points and gets rid of any malware that may be hiding in it.

Run all of the READ ME FIRST. It is always the starting step when you get infected. Even if you had run it this morning and then got infected in the afternoon, we would tell you to run it again. Also note, the online scanners used in the READ ME have now been changed.

Also maybe you should read the below:

We make no assumptions! We go only by what is stated in the messages. We have no other choice and you did not say that you did the steps. And you would not believe how many people think that because they ran them last week that they do not need to run them again. Also as I said before, the READ ME has changed. Different online scanners are used in step 1 of the cleaning process.

You did not answer the other question about the How to protect thread?

Also what do you mean you cannot backup your files? What files are you talking about?

did the thread "how to protect"
as for saving files, i tried moving a large portion of my aunts files from one folder to an external harddrive and it gave me sme system volume error, however, when i moved them in chunks it worked.
