Ok, I rode my bike 5 and a half miles to get to this "customers" house to try to recover what data I could from the corrupted partition on his hard drive. When I got there some +censored+ was there doing the job for 5$ an hour and waving a bogus certification around. Ok, big deal, Its not the first time I have lost customers over stuff like this. So I sit down and relax a bit, taking a breather from the long ride there. To my horror I see this "professional" with this "certification" start taking the cover off the hard drive exposing the platters. So I ask him WTF he thinks hes doing, "Im going to realign the read/write heads." He tells me. :eek I tell him hes about to kill the hard drive and screw any chance of recovering the "customers" data. He goes nuts, waving this made up "data recovery certification" around and yelling at me "I'm a certified professional" this "What certifications do you have?" that. So I do the only logical thing I could think of at the time and busted him in his lip, and told him to +censored+ off. :madrolleyes I told the "customer" not to come crying to me when he looses his data and left. After that I worked for 6 hours on my younger brothers PC, getting nothing done while he nags and fusses about how long I'm taking. I gave this little +censored+ a DFI lanparty SLI-DR Expert and 2 GB of BH-5 and he treats me like I owe it to him. :banghead After 6 hours of working on this system dealing with his +censored+ I up and left. :tas Any way how was your day ? rolleyes

    Hi Ace :wave
Thats how these guys make their money! Go to the job, screw it up, blame someone else and get paid to fix their own mistakes rolleyes
Just because they have a certificate doesnt mean they know what they are doing, but there are a lot of gullible people out there as you know!

You should offer boxing lessons too :boxing LOL

Jeez Ace, don't you know the first step to data recovery is to manually re-align the read write heads? :D And if that does not work, just use a magnifying glass and you can read the data directly off the platter. (Takes a lot of paper and ink to copy those 1TB drives though..)

Hope the rest of your day goes better!

Personally... I would ahve told my friend to call me when the 'Pro Geek' was done and I would come over and fix what they trashed, but it would cost double. Then turn the the 'Pro Geek' and tell him not to screw it up too much for me. I'm just an smartaleck like that tho. Hope today is better for you man. Wanted to say this last night when i first read this, but was so tired I could barely put letters together :)

Fingers crossed for you to have a better day... and as to the brother part... it will get better...I remember those days, and now we look back and laugh
