Road signs in Wales are required by law to be in English and in Welsh, which prompted this rather unusual sign. Be very careful on your "Out of Office" email reply!!

Welsh road sign lost in translation

LONDON (AFP) — Officials in Wales mistakenly erected a road sign that read "I am not in the office at the moment" in Welsh after a translation mix-up.
The sign originally said in English, "No entry for heavy goods vehicles. Residential site only," but when Swansea Council officials sent it to be translated, they received an automated e-mail written in Welsh that read: "I am not in the office at the moment. Please send any work to be translated."
Unaware of the actual meaning of the e-mail, officials had the sign printed and put up near a supermarket, only realising their mistake when Welsh speakers pointed it out.
All road signs in Wales are required to be written in English and Welsh.
"Our attention was drawn to the mistranslation of a sign at the junction of Clase Road and Pant-y-Blawd Road," a Swansea Council spokesman said.
"We took it down as soon as we were made aware of it and a correct sign will be installed as soon as possible."

Yeah, we have a suburb around these parts called 'Welshpool'. When they first put the sign up on the railway station, they forgot the 'L', so it read 'Welshpoo' LOL. Neither the town council, nor the local Welsh population were amused, either.:-o

Those crazy Welsh funsters!

Back in 2006 this one was also mentioned on the BBC http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/south_east/4794753.stm LMAO, still at this... its funny as Wales is not far from me and some signs as they have to have them in Welsh and English, say the same thing as their is no translation.

Amazing:-D The initial mistake was ridiculous but the amount of people's hands it would gone through without them realising doesn't bare thinking about.

I know it costs about £250 just to apply for sign to be put up so you must be looking at over a thousand £'s worth of wastage.
