    Hi,

I'm new to this forum but it seems the best place to get some advice.

I was a victim of a Metropolitan Police Screen Lock virus but managed to remove(most of) it with Gridinsoft Trojan killer (run from a flash drive in "Safe Mode") and then AVG antivirus.

Now, everytime I start my laptop, I'm presented with the following message on the desktop.

    "There was a problem starting.
    C\Users\Andy's\AppData\Local\Temp\wgsdgsdgdsgsd.exe
The specified module could not be found"

If I click on the "OK" button, the message disappears and the laptop seems to run fine.

Any pointers as to how I can remove this message ?

If I navigate the path, the .exe file does not appear so I can't simply delete it !

Any help would be gratefully received.

    Cheers,

    Andy.

Please download the latest version of
    MGtools
and save it to your root folder. Run the exe. file and attach the resulting C:\MGLogs.zip.

I am not finding it in your logs. Do please run CCleaner. Make sure to empty out your temp folders as much as possible.

Now go to start / run / and type:
    msconfig

Click on the start up tab and see if you find it there.

    Hi Tim,

    I appreciate your response.

I have downloaded and run CC Cleaner and also opened msconfig but it is not under the startup tab.

Perhaps I should also have mentioned that the error message has the heading "RunDLL"

    Hi Tim,

    Quick update.

After running CC Cleaner I was prompted to carry out a Windows Update (I'm not sure whether this was due to running CC Cleaner or just coincidence)

Anyway, after running Windows Update the startup error message has now gone ! :)

Not sure if you have any suggestions as to how I check that the virus has definitely been removed or how I prevent re-infection.

    Many thanks,

Good to know. The following is our general clean up:

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. You can uninstall RogueKiller and HitManPro.
    2. Go back to step 4 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link
Malware removal from a National Chain = $149
Malware removal from MajorGeeks = $0
