I'm really excited about doing the build...but nervous at the same time. I've done a lot of puter repairs, hardware swapping and what-not over the years but starting from the ground up with the MB is a first and it's making me queazy..it's irrational..I know LOL but until I hear it post I'll be sweating bullets I think

Well, that's definitely good news that you’ll be receiving al the parts for your new 'puter build tomorrow. $40.00 is a decent size saving too! (Tips hat to G.T.! Always a kind and helpful lad, he is!).

Actually, doing a rebuild from the ground up is a good thing - then you can set everything up exactly how you want it. Hopefully, it will have a comprehensive manual with it, as most (but not all) good mainboard brands do.

Even after all these years, I still get excited when I'm building a new P.C. for myself, (I'm easily pleased, LoL!).

Congrats again, Abby and I guess you'll be smokin' (no, not literally! ), with your new comp in a day or so.

My biggest concern is that I will somehow miss one of the contacts and fry the MB. I'll probably check it at least 50 times before I poewer it up

Lets see..for specs:

Using my current ATX case which I already gutted. Will also be putting my DVD drive & CDR/RW, floppy and 40 gig drives back in. Bought a new 19" LCD Samsung 930B monitor in August (?) cuz my old one died so I bet the display will be even sweeter now.

New hardware:

250 gig HD (slave)
520w smart cable PSU
Gigabyte K8NSC-939 MB
Kingston HyperX PC3200 1gig
AMD Anthon 64 3500+
Adding 2 80mm SMART fans and replacing my old intake fan.

[EDIT] Woops! Forgot the GFX card GeForce 6200 8x 265mb DDR [/EDIT]

I "think" that covers everything.

Not looking forward to having to install XP 2 times but I want to use my 40 gig as my primary boot disc so I have too but at least I can get away with a minimal install initially until I get everything transferred and then proceed with formatting the 40 gig and starting fresh.

 

Thanks Barry...I have most of what I need but still needed the MB & RAM and well, those are kinda sorta critical ya know? Once those get here I'll be good to go.

Downloaded the manual for MB a couple weeks ago and already read through it a couple times so I'm pretty comfortable with it in that way and according to what is suppose to be in the box I should have a hard copy of it to refer to so I didn't bother with printing all those pages. *keeping fingers crossed*

Abbysue...I might not be able to add much technically to any problems you might get, but heck, my PM box is sat there waiting for you to fill it with expletives if it gets too frustrating a project! I'll have the coffee on ready

 

Gigabyte K8NSC-939 MB is a good mobo. Gigabyte make some good stuff, and have a pretty comprehensive manual. In fact, you'll 'prolly find there will be two, one for the mainboard and one for SATA H.D.D.'s and RAID configurations, if memory serves me correctly. Also a good supply of driver disks and extras are included.

I've done quiet a few systems with Gigabyte, and I know Halo will agree that they are pretty good. I have the Abit AN8 - SLI in the machine I'm using, a.t.m. Nvidia NF4 chipset rocks, i.m.o!

All the other parts you listed are excellent as well.

Hey i guess we are in the same boat i suppose to receive my stuff on friday can wait to upgrade this things hope it go well for you to.....

 

I wish I was doing only an upgrade..which had been my plan..a little bit here..a little bit there but my puter decided to up and die completely! ACK! So...I have been WITHOUT A PUTER SINCE DECEMBER 2nd!!! First thing in the morning no less! ARGGGG!!!Sorry...didn't mean to yell....get a little frustrated now and then ya know? LOL

Luckily, Chris was able to set me up on his puter so I can still visit geeks but I have been suffering from major graphic arts & fragging withdrawl...can't wait to get back in the swing of things.
