what all this about ?

i just got my grandaughter a secondhand laptop everythings fine with it except when you start it up and window loads i get this come up and i have never seen it on any pc or laptop that i have had and would like to no how to get rid of it as its quite annoying

the welcome to windows sign comes up and then you get this

Press Ctrl-alt-Delete to begin

why do i have to do this and how do i remove it for good ?

the laptop is running XP PROFESSIONAL

laymans terms please not very computer savy lol

Hi,

I'm guessing you are not seeing the Welcome screen when you login. Try going to Start>Control Panel>Users Under Pick a Task choose Change the way users log on or off and then check the boxes for "Use the Welcome screen" and "Enable Fast user Switching". Restart.
