This is the third computer I put together, and the first one to have issues. th main issue is that I can't connect to my network with wireless usb network adapter from trendnet. I switched the motherboard, power supply but I don't think it's the parts. I tried the device on other computers and it works perfect. what could be causing this issue!!

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

What version of Windows is on the new PC? If it's a newer version than on the other two PCs, go to Trendnet's website and see if there is a different driver available.

If this doesn't work, just buy a new USB adapter that's certified by the mfr. to work with the version of Windows on your new PC. It's very doubtful your motherboard or power supply is the problem.

    Hope this helps. :)

there are no wireless adapters that are certified for windows 8 at my local store so I just run the drivers in compatibility mode for win 8, which is the version I have. I also tried the device on other computer with windows 8 and it works fine.

What does Device Manager say about the adapter?

Is there a yellow triangle, with an exclamation point?

I just switched out the pc having issues, with another pc that has the same operating system and is also a desktop, I put the adapter in and it worked instantly so it must be something with the hardware. Since they are both running on windows 8 and the default drivers were sufficient for the adapter to work on the other computer that I brought in I assume it's the hardware at this point.

the adapter is read fine by device manager it recognizes it perfectly, however it cannot connect to the network. It is a very confusing issue for me, this is only the third pc I built.

no there is no yellow exclamation mark it sees it as trendnet 802/11n network adapter.

I took the pc apart again , this is probably at least the 7th time, looked for any standoffs that where out of place, loose connections or screws, I am absolutely stumped.

OK, if the device is recognized and enabled, we move on to Wireless Networking.

If you go into the Network and Sharing Center via Control Panel, are you part of a "Homegroup"?

If you are need to click on the blue text which describes your connection. This will open a status window. What does it tell you?

Have you tried the troubleshooter in Network and Sharing?

it says this computer can't connect to a homegroup. yes I have tried the troubleshooter.

I can see the network in my list of in range networks, but after attempting to connect for a bit it just says can't connect to this network. I already brought a whole other computer just to see if there was interference but it worked fine, so I believe it is a problem with this commputer.

Unfortunately since I can't fix this issue I guess I will take it to geeksquad and pay 100$ for them to look at it, or whatever ridiculous fee they charge. :(

If you can't connect to a Home Group, that's a big part of the problem right there.

I would try re-installing the OS, in case something went wrong. I would also test the RAM to see if there are any issues just to error on the side of caution.

If you are going to keep building, the best way is to learn is to have patience...

I can't connect because the adapter doesn't work
the ram is brand new everything is brand new in fact.
I already re installed the OS multiple times clean install eacch time.

Can post the model number of the wireless adapter and a link to the new driver page you've tried to install as mekanic suggested.

Not all windows builds are equal, some come with drivers the other doesn't so in device manager right click the adapter and post the driver version, date and provider.

If possible connect to the other computer again and do the same, check the driver version is the same.

Post what security software you have installed, firewall, anti virus, malware protection, in any case I suggest you uninstall them all and disable windows firewall until you can connect.

Try to connect then go to control panel- event viewer and look for any events at the time you tried to connect.

I used the same version of windows for both computers it is a fresh install so the only thing it has is firewell. I disabled firewall as you suggested and was able to connect to my network for about 1 minute. like I said before I brought another computer to see if it was the location bit it worked fine.

Parts being brand new doesn't always mean alot. I've received a host of things over the years which were "brand new", and were defective.

Sorry we couldn't help you out...
