What are the system requirements to properly run an N64 emulator?

My favorite game ever is Goldeneye 007 for the Nintendo 64 and I would play it every day if I could. I had the N64 years back but it got stolen. Recently I downloaded an N64 emulator and Goldeneye rom onto my computer. However, No matter what I do I can't get the graphics in the emulator to run smoothly even though I have a Pent IV 2.4 GHz and decent graphics card. It uses 100 % of the CPU and constantly skips etc when too many things are on the screen. I am looking at buying a new system now anyways, but I was wondering what is sufficient to run smooth graphics on a 3D emulation system? I am looking at buying a computer with an AMD 2 x64 3800+ processor that runs at 2 GHZ, 2GB DDR2 memory, and a 256MB ATI Radeon X1300 Pro graphics card. Anyone who knows a bit about computer gaming, could you please tell me if these specs will be good enough, or do I need a better graphics card etc?

Way, back when I used emulators. During my naughty days. The n64 emu worked on my P2 300 mhz pc, with a 3dfx video card.

 

that should be plenty for an N64 emulator. ive never used an emulator but my guess would be to try a differnt one. and you know this is illegal right, unless your playing on gametap or whatever.

 

Emulators aren't illegal, but ROMS are.

 

apparently if you own the game, then roms arent illegal, I dont know how true this is though.
I still have an original nintendo, but no controllers, ive been keeping my eyes peeled for a while now...Id'e sure like to play some Super mario
