On an infected machine are the drivers still safe to copy or is there no safe areas in software? I am going to reload vista and was just wondering if I can copy them safely with no risk to the fresh install?

It is impossible to answer this with 100% accuracy. Even if you told us what infections were on the PC, we still could not guarantee the answer to be correct. And it also depends on what drivers and where the files were actually located too.
