So it's worth the length? I'm going to be reading it after I finish the book I'm on now. The last one of his I read was Duma Key. I thought that one was really good.

I think so. Took me about 7 days to read it. Under the Dome, in my opinion, is not the normal King style of writing, but it did keep me interested and entertained. I'd curious as to what the paperback will be like as I don't think there could be a whole lot removed and still be able to follow with the story.

I have yet to read Duma Key, even though I've had it for a couple years now. :-o

"Worlds in Collision" by Immanuel Velikovsky

Published in the 1950's. Book outlining his beliefs that the earth has suffered a series of natural catastrophes, and that evidence of such is available in the geologic records and the legends of various civilizations.

Largely discounted or ignored by mainstream science, still makes for interesting reading - especially his comparison of the similarities that exist in the legends and myths of various cultures. Not read it for a while, but what with the upcoming doomsday thought it might not hurt to "brush up" on the topic :-D

Not got time for books of late (mostly reading medical protocols and research papers), last one was a riot though and would recomend it to anyone to read. Its that good I feel that I read it 3 times over the years.

Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman.

Funniest stuff I read in ages, pity they never got around to making a movie out of this book as I know it would be a corker, with the classic quotes of.....

used this one as a signature line many years back

I really really like Neil Gaiman. I've never read that one and will have to check it out! I loved Neverwhere.

I love paradies too. Have you ever read Christopher Moore? Very funny

"We're Hell's Angels. You know, the real thing?"

"Oh yeah? What chapter are you from?"

    "Revelations, Chapter 6."

The smallest things become hysterically funny when Terry Pratchett is involved. I love that book, I think I have re-read it a dozen times by now.

Neil Gaiman's American Gods is very similar to Good Omens, from a mythology/setting standpoint, and very good overall. Personally, I thought it was better than Stardust.

    @LauraR,
If you liked Neverwhere, have a look at The Anansi Boys and Coraline. :)

I love Pratchett too, but more for his sci-fi work in DiscWorld. I'll have to check out those others after I reread DiscWorld first, only 4 books IIRC.;)

I read Anansi Boys and liked it. I even read The Graveyard Book which is a 'young adult' book and thought it was really good. Neverwhere is my favorite though.

I'm definitely going to try Good Omen...I went onto Amazon to try and download it to my Kindle and it's not offered. I'll have to get it at the library or buy it.

Well, I bought it used from Amazon. I had remembered bookmooch.com, but they didn't have it unfortunately.

They didn't so I got it used for $1.76 on amazon. I have to pay shipping ($3, I think), but it's still cheaper than in a book store. I'm mad it wasn't available for the kindle.

Anyway, thanks for the recommendation. I'm looking forward to getting it.

Aw, yeah!!! My son brought a couple of books home from school, Asterix the Gaul. I tell you, that was a trip down memory lane. It's more than 30 years since I last read them. Still gives me belly laughs.
The boy's mission is to get as many as possible from his school library, then it's off to do some research into what books are available in the series (dozens, I imagine), then Amazon to buy, buy, buy. Bye bye.

Have you read all the Drizzt Du'Urden books, They are all great I just finished reading The Crystal Shard for about the tenth time since '91. And his Elminster series is fantastic too. Elminster Making Of A Mage is one of the best books I have ever read.

    lego126 DJ's Geeky Dad

Yes, the Lightning Thief is kinda a Harry potter spin off. I never read one Harry Potter book though. There are some really cool stuff in it. I wish I would have waited and seen the movie first now, I'm betting I won't be able to watch the movie. Kinda' like when I read Eragon before the movie came out. Book was good, movie was sub-par.

Lestat, I have read all of the Drizzt books, I started off with something like, The thousands Orcs, and then I went back and read all of the others. I loved all of the Drizzt books, but Salvatore has a series about, Artemis, and Jarlaxle, those 3 books are some of my favs. :drool

As far as the ELminister series goes, I have read like the first 2 book, but I just can't get into "Elminister in Hell." There are so many books about him, you are talking about Ed Greenwoods series I'm assuming. :confused

  41. lestat

    lestat Private E-2

Yes your right it was Ed Greenwood and I have also read the Artemis Jarlaxle series and love the transition Artemis goes through. Years ago a person put up a Story on fanfiction.net that was very similar, at least as far as the transition is concerned though this person had Artemis leave Jarlaxle's company. Another good series if your into that type of novel is The Guardians Of The Flame. The concept of which is some kids playing a roleplaying game and waking up to realize that they are now in their characters bodies in the game. It sound cheesy but it really is a great story and quite an addicting read :)

I thought the book was good, as I could knock off 100-130 pages a night. I'm reading Duma Key and can barely pull 60 pages, as Duma Key just doesn't quite keep me interested.
