    ...for your Mother's 70th Birthday?

I've racked my tiny brain and can't come up with anything significant. :(

She doesn't drink so wine etc is out and her garden is chock full of flowers so they wouldn't seem appropriate.

Her hobbies are cycling (she does about 100 miles a week  ) and line dancing and reading (but not all at the same time :) )

Help me please I've got until Sunday to get something.

Off the top of my head as as she seems the outdoor type and still very spritely.. hows about a Cycling Holiday weekend in the UK somewhere?

How about a nice gift certificate for a full day of pampering at a local spa. Manicure, pedicure, massage, etc. Not terribly expensive.

    She should love it.

People often value spending time with family rather than things as they go through life. You should spend time with her....take her out to a show and dinner, for example.

Or go cycling with her. That might do the job too.

Unless she could show up Lance, then she might get annoyed at the constant requests to slow down. :)

Ah yes...the milestone birthdays. I just did my mom's 70th earlier this year. :)

We threw here a HUGE family party with all the grandkids at a local restaurant, complete with incredibly embarrassing singing waiters delivering a cake (no, it wasn't Friday's...we got them to do it for us as a favour).

Try to find a first edition book by her favourite author (unless you don't want to spend that much). The spa gift certificate is a great idea as well. Or a certificate to her favourite cycle shop. Or a gift certificate to a local bookstore. Or go line dancing with her. :)

@ Halo - I quite like the idea of the cycling holiday if I could get it arranged in time.

    @ Gensuknives - Hadn't even considered that - good idea :)

@ Lev - Now that's another fine idea

@ Burning Monkey - I'll do that as well as anything else I (you :) ) can come up with.

@Sgt Tibbs - I think I've actually got a first edition of Scoop by Evelyn Waugh. So that would be cheap for me at least

Great ideas so far guys. Keep 'em comin'. :)

Oops sorry about the double post

does she like to listen to music and have a computer? you could get her an ipod so she can listen to music while doing her gardening.

A meal out works brilliantly for parents - I did it for my parents silver wedding anniversary last night :)

Not off topic at all! Yargwel...take your Mom on a fishing trip up the McKenzie for her 70th ;)

Haven't got into ocean fishing yet.......we only have the drift boat! Wouldn't be advisable ;)

Well, if she really ISN'T into massages, etc., you could ALWAYS just give her a gift certificate for a manicure/pedicure. All women of all ages love to get their hoofs done.

Well thanks for all the fantastic ideas guys.

I decided in the end that Rikkys idea was such a good one :) that I've ordered a laptop for her (though the broadband connection may have to wait just a while longer ;) ) that will hopefully arrive in the next day or two so I can set it up for at least a dial-up account for starters.

Thanks again (especially you Rikky.) :)
