What do you guys think about this (portable DVD)?

Polaroid is obviously not the first brand I think of when it comes to high-quality AV equipment, but for a 7" screen, the price looks pretty good. I could really care less about the built-in games, I just want my son to be able to watch movies.

Target has a similarly priced unit, but it is only a 5" screen. I figure the bigger the better.

I just know that there a lot of cheap-ass brand WalMart crap electronics out there, that are all basically made in the same factory by the same five year olds. Those I'd like to stay away from, but at least I've heard of Polaroid. They made those stupid cameras for years!

Just wondering how Polaroid does video? I know you get what you pay for, but...

Anyone have any thoughts or advice?

    Thanks,

Can anyone at all comment? I generally always will look for customer reviews on certain products before purchase, especially electronics. However, I could not find any reviews whatsoever for this particular model. I really can't even find any info, good or bad, pertaining to Polaroid.

Anyone have any thoughts? I'm probably going to get this tonight or tomorrow. I just want to know if you think it's worth it to spend a couple hundred more for a better unit.

    Thanks again,

I don't know what to say Evil, apart from my first observations.

I havnt seen any reviews either for this, did search the net just now for 15mins and came up with nothing, checked if Polaroid UK sold it, they list it but say its USA only ( which is weird as Walmart say its an "import" ). Pros/Cons off the top of my head.... or basically all I could think of at this moment, but add to them, ;)

    Pros

    Brand Name
    Fairly good spec
Cheaper that the majority of portable DVDs

    Cons

Not a known quantity in TV/Video/DVD playback
"Import" ... would want to know why they say Import

I would take a fav DVD of your sons to Walmart and have a demo of the player before buying, so you can judge for yourself the picture quality, also as I dont know the g/warantee period and how easy it is to return stuff to WM, I would check out the g/warantee tho as they say its "import" an import may have a different g/warantee time opposed to US spec goods.

My general rule when buying all electrical 'apart from pc components' is if I cant afford the Sony one,I cant afford it!:)

On a side note,I'v never understood the need for a portable DVD player I'd rather kick back in front of the TV,I cant picture a situation where theres something you have to watch so bad it wont wait till you get home  :)

I think what Evil may want is something for journeys to keep his son amused, which is a fine art with kids in cars, so a DVD player with fav programs generally keep kids quiet... or you'd hope it will :)

if not tranquillizers work a treat :D
    j/k

I think if its for kids, they have a tendancy to break things...Even if they love it alot...Remember???
Try it out, you may be glad, or you may not be, but at least you wouldn't have bought more expensive gear that may be broken by the younger ones.
You could also go for the extended Warranty, If it is available.

I just bought a 7' portable DVD player when I was in Woolworths, supposedly grocery shopping, LoL! Cost me (AUD)$170, (about (USD)$125), and is a Sonwa, made in China job.

Works well, nice and clear, all the accessories, and hooks up to computer or hi-fi. Not too bad.
