I am confused, my daughter says if I am on the computer and check her myspace account she can see through the ip address that I am looking.
I dont understand. Does that mean any site I visit can check my address? What does someone know if I just look on their web page? This is making me nervous.

Most sites have the ability to track their users. Some pages can have scripts embedded which allow tracking of IP addresses of users. For example, this forum is run by vBulletin. The forum script itself logs all IP addresses of users for each post for the moderators and administrators. With your IP address you can often track down where the person is from. Your IP address can't give up your house address, just the location your IP connects to. For example I have Optimum Online. If you looked up my IP address it would tell you where my access point is which is actually my hometown.

The usual info that sites can get is as follows:

    1. Your IP address
    2. Through Ripe the ISP that you are using and an approx location ie Town/City & country.
    3. What browser you are using
    4. What o/s you are using

[EDIT]: Also if you do not clean out your index.dat files located in your TIF / Cookies folders regularly, then it is also possible to track all your movements on the internet.

    Good Luck
