With/without the religion bit, it's what it means to you.

The religious bit plays a role in my life, but it's also a good chance to see the whole family and have a good time. I think it's also become a bit commercialised with the chocolate too.....

Sadly just another day to me, but yes I agree a good time to mix with the family.

Commercialism has killed all the holidays I feel now, especially in the last 10yrs or so when the likes of Easter and Christmas start 3mths earlier than the actual months these respective festivals are in... kinda guess I'm getting old and these days dont mean what they used too, but at least the kids keep it alive a little bit... when you see their little faces :)

on the commercial side McA, the bit thats stuck in my mind having in the past been loosly part of retail is that they have devalued everything with these holidays..... 1/2 price, 3for2, bogof's its like selling off the meanings of these days for scrap!

Sad to see it has little, if any, religious connotation any more. Seems the God of choice lately is Yellow Peeps.

Just a day you're forced to dress up in a shirt and tie and spend over a hundred bucks in flowers for every aunt and grandmother in the whole family.

I am not religious at all, but my wife is, so we have to do the whole dress-up and dinner at her parents thing. At least we don't have to go to church.

My kid had a good time though looking for all the plasitc eggs filled with candy and coins that we hid all over the house.

Well, at least it's the one time a year I get to eat ham. My wife hates it and won't cook it. Her mom makes a bad-ass hame though. Mmmmm...hammmm.

What does it mean to me?

Easter is and always will be a Holiday celebrating Christ rising from the dead. Unfortunately, like Christmas the Holiday has been commercialized to the point that the true meaning of these Holiday's which so many celebrate is overlooked or conveniently forgotten. People take their paid Holidays, eat their fill of Holiday meals, open their presents, etc. and selectively overlook what it's all about.

While Santa Claus & The Easter Bunny have added to the Holiday, it does not change the underlying roots. Jesus is the reason to celebrate and share your blessings with family and friends.:)

It is also become a time for me to reflect and thank God for the time I had to know and love two very special little girls. My granddaughters who died almost a year apart, one on Good Friday (2001) and one the following year on Easter Sunday (2002). I learned so much and grew so much in the time I had with them. I will be forever grateful to Him for giving me that chance and the significance of His choice to take them home when he did is not lost on me. My Little Easter Angels....

To each his own, but this is what it means to me.

To me, Easter has a spiritual facet, as well as getting together with loved ones. I don't have much of my original family left, but I do have people close enough to call family. Maybe not the same but infinitely better than nothing.

I often think of Abby at this time, and what a bag of mixed feelings it must be for her (hugz).

I know Easter has been over commercialized when I've seen Easter Eggs in the store since about February.

Also a time for me to catch up on work, both around the house, and things I have to do to earn a living (yeck!). No Easter vacationing for me this year, I'm afraid.

Well, we have holy days, and we have holidays. The word holiday is derived from holy day, but with all the sharp edges rubbbed off. For Christians, Easter is still a holy day, the day Christ rose from the dead to finish his ministry on earth and to prove that he was not just another human martyr, and not just a human rebel that got caught and killed. For those that believe, it's a day to remember, with thanks, the sacrifice that payed for our shortcomings. For those that don't believe, bunnies and eggs and chocolate, and maybe a time to socialize is a fun substitute, but it's not the reason for the season.

Personally, this year, I spent the weekend recovering from my latest chemo treatment (Thursday) so it was a pretty quiet Easter. My sister flew in to be with me, and largely to take CARE of me this weekend, so it was both a time to "get together" and a very austere weekend; we didn't even make it out to a church service. But party and whoop-it-up isn't necessary for a holy day. That can go on quietly, in your heart, whatever you're doing physically. In our own quiet way, we had a GOOD Easter. :)

For me, Easter isn't really a holiday, as I'm not a Christian. However, since the majority of everyone is, I go with it. All it really means to me is double-time at work, and not being able to go to "my" tavern afterward because they're closed.

I do, however, celebrate the spring equinox.

Easter to me is a reminder of Jesus' dying for our sins and his rising to prove he has power over death. Meaning, at some point after I am gone from this world, or maybe before, who knows, I shall rise from death also.
It is day for my family to come together, share a meal, play cards and just have some time together. Lots of memories are made on this and all holidays for me.

What it means to me and what I did are two totally different things this year. I'm a Christian..so to me it means everything....what I did...due to total exhaustion and severe pain...was absolutely nothing.

Even Jesus Christ rested alone and spent time in prayer without anyone else around when life got too much to bear :)

Hope you all had peaceful weekends, whatever the personal meaning to you.

Hoping and praying that the pain and exhaustion are short-lived Lev. Nothing wrong with quiet reflection. That pretty much was my "celebration" this year too. Celebration is in the heart and mind, not in the physical exercises. ;)

Another day to be with family. That is the important thing in life. None of the church hogwash for me thank you, but I respect everyone elses view. I won't push mine if you don't push yours. :)

Easter is and always will be a Christian "Holy day" (G.T.), for me and my family. Thanking God for His Son and remembering what was done for all, is what my Easter is all about.
We do the candy and colored eggs for the kids, but, they know why we are celebrating.:)
