    I don't want to sound harsh, but it needs a lot of help. If you're not a designer, you may want to consider purchasing the use of a template and using that.

    Not bad, but you should add a template as Kodo suggested.

    GoodLuck ;)

    To be honest, I gave up when I saw this
    Code:
    <meta name=Generator content="Microsoft Word 9">

    I can't be reading code made by Word. *yuck*

    The flash galleries you used arn't too bad. Its just a shame the links to them are near invisible.

    I'm with Kodo - use a templete or hire someone :)

    Personally, I also think dark backgrounds look quite unprofessionl, along with the large text you have used.

    Eeek :eek: that's hard on the eyes! I agree with mcadam, but I think the choice of large text would be good for accessibility purposes.

    I am most definately not a web designer AT ALL...BUT...all the years of commercial art...I can tell you that Dark backgrounds (like black, or extremely dark blues greens, etc. ) are considered to be unprofessional, and especially since you have to use bright/light colored text...that puts quite a strain on the average eyeball!!!!

    Oh, I don't know, dark backgrounds arn't that unprofessional. Incorrect use of dark backgrounds however, is. You can make some really stunning images using dark backgrounds with bright text over it, but its easy to drift into unreadable if you're not very careful.

    They are definitely different, to black on white which most websites use these days. Its mainly because printing dark things onto light things is easier than the inverse... whens the last time you saw a printer with white ink? We've got used to print publications being styled this way.

    Ironic thing is, it requires MORE energy to display text in this way using a computer screen, which uses light emission rather than light absorbtion to create the image.

    It's also easier to read the boundries of small dark areas than the voids in large dark areas, just because thats how our brain works. Somthing to do with image perception. Some people find it easier the other way around. I know someone who has vision problems, and so uses a custom stylesheet to make all text orange and the background black, because he can't read it any other way without distorting websites.

    Word 2000 is Word 9, same way as Windows XP is Windows NT 5.2. In any case, Word makes (and always will make) disGUSTing HTML. Reading it makes me want to gauge my eyeballs out with some version of Internet Explorer.

    Large text can be used effectively, but not for main text. Generally, the smaller, the artier ;) Don't go OTT though. Sans-serif fonts are much more screen readable too (look at the one you're reading right now compared to ...this nasty article).

    thanks for the comments, im sure you guys see so many websites you are the best commentators.
    Anyway i have found this teplate i like and which fits in with my theme,

    http://www.hypertemplates.com/templates/7770.html

    my question is how hard/easy is it to put my content onto that template, as i have not much experience, but prefer todo things myself as i (dont have alot of spare cash) and always like to change things every so often & know how to fix when i mess it up.
    thanks

    before you go any furhter.. review the requirements to use this template

    Software Required: Adobe Photoshop 7+; Macromedia Dreamweaver, Adobe GoLive or Microsoft Frontpage;

    The template you chose displays its' demo as a flash interactive site. You will need the proper software to update the content as I'm quite sure it's not tied to a database.

    Since you're just starting out (so to speak) I would HIGHLY recommend you stick with HTML templates. I realize this template you've chosen also comes in HTML form.. just make sure that you're happy with it as it won't be animated like the flash one.

    As for updating the HTML (always make backups of the original), it's relatively easy if you have some experience with HTML. You can always ask in the programming forum for help on this subject.
