It's no longer on Windows Update!

    Or have they HIDDEN it?

I got a genuine advantage update not so long ago, but i have found that sometimes they come within the update schedule, and othertimes they dont!
Then there are the times that they simply include on their own?
MS works in mysterious ways so i don't doubt your questioning Mada.
Not that worried though...don't need em!!!

"[The Microsoft rep] spent some time telling me that WGA was a good thing, etc. I reiterated that I have accepted all the updates except WGA and just want to review the updates before they're installed on my machine. He told me that 'in the fall, having the latest WGA will become mandatory and if its not installed, Windows will give a 30 day warning and when the 30 days is up and WGA isn't installed, Windows will stop working, so you might as well install WGA now.'"

Haaahaaa....he definately had too many at the local!

Its funny, though... I just went to Windows Update, and the 'Windows Genuine Advantage Notification Tool' wasn't listed. Neither was KB905474, which is the KB number they've released this tool under....odd...

    mmm....interesting!

from the horses mouth: If you are running a validated, genuine copy of Windows XP, you will not receive notification messages.

I guess we have nothing to fear.....

Hmmm... it was a legit copy... wonder if they've changed it so validated users don't get the notification tool? That's definitely a change... I've seen the update get pushed out to validated machines before....

    Can you provide a link?

I think what this means is that you will still receive the WGA update, however once it is deemed to be genuine, you will not receive the notification that states 'you may be a victim of pirating software'.

I guess its possible, but highly unlikely i think....with pirated OS software on the increase MS will send the WGA update to every computer recognized as running a copy of windows XP.
The only purpose of this update is for MS to validate whether the copy be genuine or not (it serves no other purpose).
I think this is done by verifying the key used to enable the OS, which is then checked against their own database of legitimate issues.

    Regards.......

That KB is still live for me and last update to it was,

Does not link to any tool now, but just describes the WGA notifications.
